"The foreign gold nugget" has Viet Huong, Hong Dao reaching 30 billion, Khuong Ngoc "out of magic"?

After only 10 days of release, "Foreign Gold" has surpassed the 60 billion VND mark in revenue, becoming one of the most popular Vietnamese films at the moment. However, there are still mixed opinions about director Khuong Ngoc.
Having been poorly rated for films such as "Love is to Use Tricks" or "Live - Live", Khuong Ngoc seems to have found a "path" that suits him when focusing on family films, where he can freely express his personal creativity in stories that are close, simple but rich in emotions. However, with "Ngoai's Gold", the director still received mixed opinions. Some people think that he "over-exerts", leading to some scenes that tend to show off techniques, although delicate but a bit fussy.
During the sharing session, Khuong Ngoc shared that he always thoroughly protects his ideas, from the stage of choosing the setting, arranging props to setting up the camera angles. Previously, the film Sister-in-law showed his meticulous working style and many visual intentions. Together with director of photography Nguyen Ngoc Cuong, Khuong Ngoc skillfully used the lens to depict the hidden relationships in the family. The wide frames reflect the destruction of the living space, and at the same time, metaphorically represent the broken spirit of people.
Continuing that spirit, when he was working as Grandma's Gold Cube, he spent nearly a month wandering around Ho Chi Minh City just to find a house with the "soul" of old Saigon. "I wanted a house that really had the breath of the old city, so I ran everywhere every day. On the last day, I found a house disguised as a coffee shop. When I scraped off the new wall, the old wall appeared in the style of an old house, I knew I had 'struck gold'," he said.
The three adjacent houses in the film were restored by Khuong Ngoc, each reflecting the personalities of the three main characters. All the furniture is real, borrowed from neighboring households, giving the film a realistic and nostalgic feel.
Grandma's Gold tells a simple family story, but is expressed in a refined cinematic language. In response to comments that the film is "too clean" and sophisticated, Khuong Ngoc affirmed that it was his intention to create symmetry and contrast between the characters. In addition, he chose to tell the story according to the four seasons of Spring - Summer - Autumn - Winter, symbolizing the life cycle of "birth - aging - sickness - death", bringing philosophical depth to the work.
Another distinctive feature of Khuong Ngoc's films is music. He revealed that he has composed more than 40 songs for film projects, considering them as "emotional diaries". With Ngoai's Gold, he carefully selected each lyric to "drop" into the right scene, helping emotions to be guided gently and subtly.
Before the film was released, many people were concerned that Khuong Ngoc's continued casting of Viet Huong and Hong Dao - faces who had collaborated in Sister-in-law - might be a safe choice. However, after the film was released, this combination proved to be effective. In particular, Hong Dao continued to affirm her ability to transform emotionally in a role with many layers of inner feelings, making the audience emotional.
However, the success of Grandma's Gold also posed a new challenge for Khuong Ngoc: to innovate himself. He admitted: "I am expanding my cinematic world - from the closed room (Live), to the house (Sister-in-law), then the alley (Grandma's Gold). The next work will be even more open, and there will definitely be new faces to tell new stories."
