Artist Kim Ngoc was born in 1946, at Giong Ong To market (Thu Duc district, Ho Chi Minh City) in a poor family with 14 siblings, she is the second child. Her father died early, when she was 10 years old, she went to sell pork with her mother in the market and took care of her juniors.

Her husband died early, but the artist's mother Kim Ngoc was determined to stay there to raise her children. Kim Ngoc started to love cai luong from the age of 5, up to 6. On the day they got married, they were all very poor, so they had to open a pork stall right at Quoc Thanh Cinema. There are times when the couple and their children have to sleep in the same bed because the room is too narrow. When life is better, actor Hieu Hien, their son, still has the habit of sleeping with his parents until he gets married.
