In recent days, on social networks, there is a scene of conversation between a banh mi lady in Da Lat and a Japanese guest.
The two are not close when communicating with each other comfortably, but some viewers think that she sells bread almost to entice guests and charge a higher price than usual. After a lot of noise, recently, the owner of the restaurant spoke up to explain.
Accordingly, the incident emerged when the Japanese customer said that this was the third day he met the "enthusiastic" bread seller and informed her that he was about to leave Da Lat. Hearing that, she was quite sad because she "lost the relationship", then she asked him if he had any gifts for her as a souvenir. When the guy said no, she immediately suggested he buy more sugar bread with the excuse that "there is nothing in Japan".
While he was enjoying the bread, she kept asking if it was good, telling him to buy another loaf: "This loaf should be 40,000 dong, but she took it for 30,000 cheap," the woman said.
When it was time to pay, the customer gave 50,000 VND. At this time, the owner quickly took 2 more packets of sugar bread and put it in the customer's hand. Although the customer said she bought it yesterday, she still put it in the bag: "Never mind, take it". Even the guest had emphasized again that he did not want to take it, she still ignored it.
Worth mentioning at this time, another customer appeared to buy a loaf of bread for only 15 thousand VND, making him wonder. In response, she hastily explained that because they ate less, but the foreign customer continued to ask: "Yesterday, the day before yesterday, I still bought 20 thousand dong". However, the saleswoman still maintained that because the bread he ate was more meat, the price was higher.
After the story became popular, many opinions said that her behavior with the Japanese customer was not polite, especially the fact that she entices customers to buy more as well as constantly "demanding gifts" is really offensive.
And recently, the bread seller has officially explained. She confided: "In the past few days, I've been rumored to sell expensive bread online, but when I sold it to a Japanese customer, I explained it. A loaf of bread is 20 thousand dong, an extra 3 pieces of shumai is 30,000 dong, an extra 2 I'm old and I haven't cheated on anyone, so why did I post tens of thousands of people on social media saying I'm like that. If I cheated, I'd cheat a few billion, not 50,000 VND. I've been selling for 15 years and no one has complained about it, but the Japanese who come to buy it speak Vietnamese very well, it's not like I got it expensive.
I was old and miserable, then I came here to sell each loaf of bread, that day I explained the price very carefully, when I was happy, I asked for a bottle of oil, a bottle of oil that tens of thousands of thousands of dollars is not worth it. I still sell normally, since the day I heard about it, I've been selling even more. Before, I only sold 50 loaves a day, today I'm selling 100 loaves, it's only 9 am but I still have 5 loaves, about to go get more. You guys say that affects my reputation," she expressed.
Although it is not clear what the truth of this story is, the situation of raising prices and selling expensively to foreign customers has contributed to worsening the image of Vietnam in the eyes of "your country".
Not only Ho Chi Minh City or big cities, some other regions have also appeared in the press with tricks to sell expensively to Western customers.
At the end of April, when visiting Thien Mu pagoda (Thua Thien - Hue), a foreign tourist bought 1.7 kg of mangosteen and gave two 500,000 VND bills, but the seller did not pay the change. After that, the police of Hue city said that they had found a seller of mangosteen at 5 times the price for tourists and conducted to consolidate the handling records.
In January 2018, an American customer walking in Hanoi's Old Quarter was approached by 2 people, forced to repair his shoes for 260,000 VND and bought 4 donuts for 80,000 VND. The incident was witnessed and recorded by Ms. Thuy (Hanoi) on Cau Go street. "This customer said he didn't buy it, but when he saw that people kept giving it, he couldn't refuse," Thuy said.
At the end of July 2018, 2 Spanish tourists made an agreement with a cyclo rider in Hanoi for 600,000 VND for an hour. After the trip, 2 tourists paid 1.5 million VND and received 900,000 VND in the underworld (including one 500,000 VND bill and 2 200,000 VND bills). At that time, the incident caused public outrage.
