Recently, male singer Hoang Dung received great attention from the audience when he performed a large-scale personal live show. This is a music night marking the singer's remarkable return after three years since the success of "Yen Concert".
However, instead of being excited, the online community is buzzing with debate surrounding the ticket price this time.
According to the official announcement, Hoang Dung's live show will take place on August 2 in Hanoi. Tickets are divided into 7 categories, with prices ranging from 1.3 million to 2.5 million VND, which is considered 2 to 3 times higher than "Yen Concert" in 2022. This could be a sign that Hoang Dung is entering a phase of repositioning himself at a higher level. However, the reaction of the online community shows that this price increase is not simple.
As soon as the seatmap and benefits for each ticket class were announced, a wave of debate broke out, especially on the Threads platform. Many fans said that this price was not "worth the money" compared to reality: the music catalog had almost no new hits, the performance style still leaned towards static singing, and the accompanying gifts (shirts, socks, hats) were too basic to create exclusivity.
Furthermore, the gap between ticket classes is considered "lack of differentiation" when the price difference does not come with outstanding benefits. Some fans even announced that they will reconsider buying tickets, especially when the Vietnamese music market is saturated with concerts, from indie to mainstream with many attractive options in both content and experience.
It is undeniable that after the peak period with Nang Tho, Hoang Dung's appeal has shown signs of cooling down. Recent products such as La Ban or Cuoi Tuan have a fresher color but are not widespread enough to create a "wave" in the media. Moreover, the "dripping" of music over the past 2-3 years has caused Hoang Dung to stagnate in a rapidly changing market.
In that context, organizing a large-scale concert with skyrocketing ticket prices could be considered an unprepared move. Especially when artists today compete not only with music, but also with performance - something that Hoang Dung has not really invested heavily in in previous concerts. If this live show is still just a "sing and sing" concert, it will be difficult to convince the audience to spend a large amount of money to come and see it.
In fact, Hoang Dung is not alone. From summer to the end of the year, the Vietnamese concert market is becoming more vibrant than ever with the appearance of many big names, young, energetic artists and a series of independent playgrounds on the rise. It is understandable that audiences are becoming more demanding: they have the right to demand higher artistic quality, performance effects and interactivity, especially when spending millions of dong for a concert.
Therefore, without a truly groundbreaking concept, a refreshed song list, or a surprising guest artist combination, the upcoming show risks being overshadowed in the increasingly fierce "show pot war".
In the end, Hoang Dung's return is still a milestone worth waiting for, because he is a talented artist, has his own style and owns a loyal fan base. But in the midst of a market that is rotating too quickly, does the male singer have enough courage and strategy to "turn around" the situation, or will it just be a beautiful but quickly forgotten music night?
The audience is waiting for the answer not only on stage, but also in Hoang Dung's next musical steps.
Growing up from music competitions such as: The Voice - Vietnamese Voice, Sing My Song - Best Song, Hoang Dung is one of the prominent names today with the direction of making indie music (independent) by composing, writing and performing himself. The singer of Nang Tho impressed with his compositions that "captured" the hearts of listeners from the first lyrics about love between couples, about simple stories in life. His sweet, warm voice and rustic way of speaking have really captivated the audience through songs such as: Doi mu, Doan ket moi, Nem cau yeu va khong trung, Nua de nam,...
