Che Phi's real name is Luu Hoang Phi, born in 1971. He is a singer, songwriter, son of famous singer Che Linh with his first wife, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hiep, a former employee of the Saigon Electricity Department.
His parents divorced when he was very young. Therefore, Che Phi stayed with her mother for a few months and then stayed with her father for a few months. In 1980, his father crossed the border to Canada and brought his eldest son (singer Che Phuong). At that time, Che Phi was only 9 years old.
When he left, he left the villa by the Saigon Bridge for his first wife, but she refused to stay, partly because she worked far away and partly because she was granted a house by the state.
In the late 80s, it was very difficult for people to want to go to another country, but Che Phi wanted to follow his father's profession, so he decided to cross the border to Thailand, waiting for an interview opportunity to come to Canada. It was 1989, when Che Phi was 18 years old.
From here, Che Phi began the years of wandering in a foreign land full of humiliation and bitterness. In Thailand, Che Phi was arrested and sent to a refugee camp.
He sings, sews clothes for people to make money, and learns to tattoo... waiting for the opportunity to go to Canada with his father. During his time in Thailand, Che Phi met and married a girl from the countryside of Long Xuyen. They have a son together.
During those two years, his parents sometimes sent money, but while Che Phi kept waiting and waiting to be guaranteed over, he was indifferent. Suffering was unbearable, Che Phi asked to return to Vietnam. Che Phi said, at that time he hated his father very much, but later on he no longer hated him, no longer blamed him.
Back in Thailand, Che Phi worked as a tailor. When she remembers her time with Thai, Che Phi feels sad and takes the guitar to try to compose. At that time, Mr. Jimmy Nguyen advised him not to use the name Che Phi as his stage name anymore, people heard it all the time. So Che Phi changed to Luu Hoang Le's name.
Luu is his father's last name, Hoang is his middle name, and Le is his mother's last name. That means Phi is in the middle, carrying two grandparents. Later, when he sang, he took the name Luu Hoang Le, but people kept singing Che Phi and became familiar.
In addition to sewing, Che Phi also tattooed when guests came to ask for help. Also from this profession, unknowingly, Che Phi became addicted. It was around 1997. Later, his mother gave him a lot of advice. Seeing that his mother was suffering, he decided to go to rehab. While in the camp, every few days, Che Phi saw a dead person. He is very afraid. His mother had to bring some Buddhist scriptures for him to read.
Those sutras later became the inspiration for many songs of Che Phi such as "Impermanent life", "If you have a mother"...
According to Che Phi, at that time, his mother was the one who encouraged and comforted him the most. As for Che Linh, every time he had the opportunity to return to Vietnam, he would visit his son. At that time, Che Phi and his wife separated for a long time, but the two still lived in the same house, because his mother adopted her daughter-in-law as her adopted daughter.
He said: "Living in the same house, Phi and her consider each other like brothers. When Phi has a new lover, takes her home to play, she treats her like a brother to her brother and there's nothing sad about it. Time. there, she also has a lover but no one dares to come to the house."
Returning from rehab, Che Phi is determined to start over. He went to sing in tea rooms, stages, bars. Got the money back to give it to my mother. He said, when his father knew that he was trying to rebuild his life, he liked it very much.
