Wild Salmon: Popular group in the Indie world, disbanded after 10 regrettable years

Wild Salmon is an indie band that writes and performs their own songs. The songs of Wild Salmon are considered a strange tone, many personalities in the music market.

Wild Salmon was formed in 9/2013, starting with 2 members: Nguyen Viet Thanh (frontman, vocalist) and Nguyen Thanh Minh (leader, guitarist, backing vocals). Earlier, with a love for music, two young men and their friends formed the student group Beehive Slippers (2007). After 5 years of activity with two studio albums All It's Just Beginnings and Broken Recordings, the band disbanded due to conflicts between the members. Thanh and Minh continued their musical activities under the new name Wild Salmon.

As for the name Wild Salmon, this is actually the name of a comic book character in the Lucky Luke series that the members loved very much as children. The image of salmon upstream evokes personality, strength, in line with the musical style that the group pursues, and at the same time evokes all the ups and downs that the group has experienced.

And above all, the image of Wild Salmon also shows the thoughts and feelings of children who are far from home always towards their families, carrying in themselves the belief to overcome difficulties and challenges with the enthusiasm of youth - the most beautiful period in each person's life.

After 1 year of effort, the group released their debut album titled Chapter II in 2014 with outstanding songs such as The Last Door, Once ... After the success of Chapter II, the group added two members, Bui Khac Dat (bass guitar) and Le Dang Hieu (composing, playing guitar). With the appearance of 2 new members, the group has started the journey against the water to assert their name in the Vietnamese music market.

In 2016, the group released their second album project called Paper Dream. The album's content focuses on "the difficulties in realizing the dreams of young people" and the record has sold 800 CDs, which is twice as many as the first album.

In 2017 and 2018, the band respectively released their 3rd album project - a double album divided into 2 parts: Folding and Folding: Does it make sense?. Folding quickly received a positive response from the audience and brought them more than 1000 CDs. Also in 2017, Hieu left the group to pursue his own artistic path, leaving the band's lineup with only 3 people.

In 2019, Wild Salmon released their 4th studio album project, titled The Escape Effect. The band also released five singles from the album including "5AM", "Acid8", "Bin", "Her", and "Escape Effect", which is the album's title. In the same year, Wild Salmon launched a tour through Vietnam called F(x) in his hometown of Da Lat and many major cities such as Buon Ma Thuot, Hanoi, Can Tho, Hue and Da Nang, with 6000 spectators attending. The tour officially ended in Ho Chi Minh City with the final concert titled "Fx Tour Saigon - The Final Effect".

At the 2019 WeChoice Awards, Wild Salmon was honored in the category of "Outstanding Underground Artist".

"The success in 2019, when Vietnamese Rock was in decline, in the midst of other popular music genres and also when many other artists launched products, proving the talent and efforts of Wild Salmon after a long time. In that journey upstream, Wild Salmon has brought many hearts together, brought people to wonderful spaces, and the 3 boys have a right to be proud that they are not alone."

On May 14, 2021, Wild Salmon released the album Then and Later, after making an album during the pandemic. On January 8, 2023, Wild Salmon announced on his fan page that bassist Bui Khac Dat had left the group, leaving the lineup with only two members, Thanh Luke and Thanh Minh. On April 7, 2023, the group released the album We All Want One Thing.

On the evening of June 2, 2023, the band Wild Salmon announced that the group would be going on hiatus. We all want a tour that takes place in many cities throughout the country such as Hanoi, Da Nang, Hue, Can Tho in June and early July to end the group's performance journey after 10 years.

2 members Ming and Luke also thanked everyone who made 10 years of Wild Salmon as well as the support of fans to get them to where they are today. The information made Wild Salmon fans in particular and Vietnamese rock fans in general unable to help but fall short.

Wild Salmon is considered a counterweight to the Sweet of the North. Both groups have a dense existentialism in each music video, the song seems simple. But if Sweet is the embodiment of Ha Thanh mussels with something romantic and profound, Salmon Bewildered the bare, everyday life of young people in the southern city. That everyday quality is not everyone can write into music so that listeners have to quietly ponder after a bustling minute with the melody.

From an indie/underground group, Wild Salmon products gradually became known. They emerged and succeeded with a series of "sold-out" shows, best-selling records and prestigious awards.

At the 2023 WeChoice Awards, We All Want a Tour - Wild Salmon's stage farewell tour surprises by holding the towering position in the Liveshow/Concert of the Year category. It can be seen that, despite saying goodbye to the stage, the influence of Wild Salmon still spreads strongly. At one point, the Wild Salmon's farewell tour even rose to No. 1.
