Recently, the online community was abuzz with the news that BTS will complete their military service and return in 2025. Along with that, HYBE company also revealed many of BTS's projects after returning to the "music race".
Recently, the public has been buzzing with the news that BTS members are being discharged from the military one after another, along with rumors that the group will make a comeback. Accordingly, BTS is expected to return to the music scene in the second half of 2025. Specifically, HYBE's Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Lee Kyung Jun mentioned the group's future plans, saying, "We are currently discussing with the members about BTS's group activities in 2026." Thus, the group is expected to mark their comeback by releasing a new full album in the second half of next year, and will also embark on a world tour in 2026. This is expected to be the biggest tour of BTS's career.
According to Naver, Lee Hwa-jeong, a data analyst at NH Investment & Securities, said, "As the overall performance of artists is very active, sales across all sectors are expected to be strong, but content sales will definitely be affected due to the absence of BTS' activities. We expect an immediate increase in total sales when BTS releases a new full-length album in the second half of next year. The world tour will begin in 2026, and we expect to benefit from the unprecedented scale of performances and average ticket prices."
When BTS decided that all 7 members would enlist in the military starting in late 2022, HYBE announced that the group was aiming to return as a full group in 2025. If the members' expected discharge dates were followed, this plan could come true. But HYBE's CFO's statement has fans worried that BTS's comeback schedule could be postponed. Of the 7 BTS members, Jin and J-Hope have completed their military service, while the remaining members - RM, Suga, Jimin, V, and Jungkook - are expected to complete their service in June 2025, setting the stage for the group's next activities. HYBE had previously hinted that the group could return in late 2025, especially after all 7 members renewed their contracts in September 2023.
In response to fans' concerns, HYBE clarified that the CFO's statement did not imply a change to BTS's previously scheduled reunion in late 2025. "We are closely discussing with the artists about their post-discharge activities. Once the schedule and details are finalized, we will inform the public at the appropriate time," HYBE said. Industry insiders believe that the possibility of BTS returning after 2025 is unlikely. Both HYBE and the members have previously mentioned their goal of returning as a full group by the end of 2025. The members' decision to enlist at the same time is seen as an effort to reunite BTS as soon as possible.
During the time BTS was absent from the "K-pop race", a junior group "broke" BTS's record on the music charts. That group is Stray Kids - JYP's 4th generation bo.y group. JYP's group has the most prominent international fanbase in Kpop at the moment, Stray Kids just recently made a comeback and immediately set many great achievements. On the morning of December 23 - 1 week after Stray Kids released their new album, Billboard 200 updated the data for last week. The excellent album HOP led the Billboard 200 chart with 176 thousand pure units sold in the US - a record number for any Kpop artist. Stray Kids became the first and only Korean artist in history to have 6 consecutive albums debut at #1 on Billboard 200 - including Maxident, 5-STAR, ROCK-STAR, ATE and HOP.
Previously, BTS was the first Korean artist to have 6 albums #1 on Billboard 200, including Love Yourself: Tear, Love Yourself: Answer, Map of the Soul: Persona, Map of the Soul: 7 and BE. However, HYBE's bo.y group did not achieve this achievement as seamlessly as Stray Kids.
Debuting in 2018 under JYP with a 9-member lineup, Stray Kids was once considered a failed bo.y group project of this entertainment empire. The turning point came when Woojin suddenly left the group for personal reasons. Stray Kids maintains an 8-member lineup to date, including Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, HAN, Felix, Seungmin and IN. Stray Kids pursues strong electronic and hip-hop music, with the trio 3RACHA (Bangchan, Changbin, Han) capable of self-production.
