Lee Do Hyun's first feature film quickly became a horror blockbuster, earning 1200 billion dominating the box office for 16 days, also setting an unprecedented record for the Korean film industry.
Exhuma (Exhuma: Grave of Ghosts) is a blockbuster on Korean screens, has been released for more than half a month in Korea and still maintains its incredible attraction, as well as continuously becoming the focus of attention from Asian audiences because of its huge box office performance, despite constantly having to confront huge blockbusters from Hollywood - Dune. Currently, on the 16th day of release, the film is still at the top 1 of the box office, there has never been a day to lose the "crown", revenue up to more than 1200 billion VND and continues to increase strongly.
Exhuma's strong destructive power is not only limited to the domestic market. In Indonesia, the first country after South Korea to show Exhuma, theaters had to double the number of screenings because of overcrowding. According to FeatPicture, film statistics in Indonesia said: "100,000 viewers after 3 days of screening. 200K viewers after 4 days of showing. Showtimes have doubled and are still sold out."
According to the feedback from both Korean and Indonesian audiences, Exhuma is an excellent party, everything from the script to the acting is unbelievably perfect. In particular, the quartet of actors belonging to the power school of two generations of Korean screens, Choi Min Sik - Yoo Hae Jin - Kim Go Eun - Lee Do Hyun, made the audience throw their hats in admiration because their acting was like ... possessed.
It is known that at the premiere at the Berlin Film Festival, Exhuma received long applause from the audience. Comments on social media about this work are also relatively positive. Naver noted a flurry of such comments about Exhuma, with many even praising it as Korea's second best horror film, promising to be the best of 2024.
Audience comments:
- Deservedly considered the best Korean horror film since The Wailing to date.
- I get goosebumps constantly when I watch movies. Not only horror and mystery, but this is also a movie with a deep message.
- I bet it will be very difficult for any Korean film to surpass this one this year. Really excellent.
- The commendable point is that the film maintains its pace, mysterious atmosphere and tension from beginning to end. The cast really has no points of criticism.
- I believe that this film will open a new direction for Korean mysterious and spiritual works.
- The only pity is that the film is a bit long, I wish it had been more compact.
The cast of Exhuma - Tomb of Chongma shines with Lee Do Hyun, Kim Go Eun, Choi Min Sik, Yoo Hae Jin and Jeon Kin Ki. The story of the drama revolves around revealing bizarre secrets involving a feng shui master (Choi Min Sik), a funeral worker (played by Yoo Hae Jin) and two shamans (played by actors Kim Go Eun and Lee Do Hyun), as they bring mysterious tombs to light in exchange for a hefty sum of money.
Notably, this is actor Lee Do Hyun's first film work. Famous for his image as a kind, gentle letter boy in hit dramas such as The Good Bad Mother, Youth Of May,... But in Exhuma, Lee Do Hyun has completely changed, appearing with ghostly imagery, cold eyes, and arms tattooed with Buddhist scriptures, highlighting the multidimensionality of his acting.
