Billie Eilish was hit in the face by an overzealous fan while sitting cross-legged on stage. The singer's reaction to the incident left the online community in awe.
On December 13, Billie Eilish encountered a rare incident while performing on the HIT ME HARD AND SOFT: THE TOUR. Specifically, during the show, Billie Eilish was hit by an overzealous fan with an object that looked like a necklace. The incident occurred when the 22-year-old singer was sitting cross-legged on stage, performing the Oscar-winning hit What Was I Made For?.
According to the clip that went viral on social media, Billie Eilish was startled when the necklace hit her in the face. However, the young singer handled the situation professionally by continuing to perform before throwing the jewelry aside in mild frustration.
The singer explained that most of the objects thrown were smartphones, often intended to take selfies with the artist: "It's really infuriating when you're up there. I have mixed feelings about it, because when you're up there, it blows up. But you know it's out of love, and they're just trying to give you something. You're in a vulnerable position, but I've been hit with a lot of things over the years."
Audiences throwing things on stage for their favorite artists is no longer strange to singers in the European and American markets. The online community believes that this is just a way for fans to show their affection for their idols, although this action is a bit extreme.
In 2021, Cardi B also encountered a similar situation while performing the song Bodak Yellow at Drai's Beachclub in Las Vegas (USA), the female singer was suddenly splashed with a glass of water by the audience. Too angry, the rapper stopped singing and threw the microphone straight at the audience's head, interrupting the performance. When security forces arrived to help the injured person, the video recorded the image of Cardi B continuously expressing her frustration on stage.
After the show, the singer posted a video showing another angle of her throwing the microphone at the audience, showing that the injured person intentionally threw a cup of water at Cardi B, not accidentally out of excitement.
However, another video showed Cardi B and her DJ had previously called on the audience to splash water on her, so many people followed suit and then the noisy incident happened. At that time, the media reported that the singer born in 1992 could be charged with causing injury to another person. The Las Vegas Police Department confirmed that there was a report of an injury to the audience that took place on Sunday when a person said that an object was thrown on stage. The online community also said that the woman who reported the incident to the police said that she was standing next to the audience member who threw a drink at Cardi B during the performance and was also hit by the microphone.
With the ballad "What Was I Made For?" from "Barbie," Eilish, 22, and O'Connell, 26, became the youngest and second-youngest people to win an Oscar, respectively. The pop duo took home the Grammy for song of the year for their melancholy hit "Barbie" last month. The siblings won their first Oscar two years ago for the James Bond theme song " No Time to Die." Billie Eilish is also the first woman to win the big three music awards (Oscar, Grammy, Golden Globe) twice.
Previously, the youngest person to win two Oscars was actress Luise Rainer, who was 28 when she won her second best actress award in 1938 for her role in the drama "The Good Earth," after winning the same award the year before for "The Great Ziegfeld." Accepting the award, Eilish said: "I dreamed about this last night," then burst out laughing. "I feel incredibly lucky and honored." She also shouted out to a former music teacher: "You don't like me, but you did great."
Eilish is already among the youngest Oscar winners ever. In the original song category, the record is still held by Czech singer-songwriter Markéta Irglová, who was just 19, with the award for the ballad âFalling Slowlyâ from the film âOnce.â Only a handful of people have won two Oscars by the age of 30. Jodie Foster achieved the feat at age 29 with her second win for best actress for her role in âThe Silence of the Lambs.â Hilary Swank, meanwhile, also achieved the feat at age 30, with her second win in the category for âMillion Dollar Baby.â
To win Best Original Song, Eilish and O'Connell beat out another nominee from "Barbie," "I'm Just Ken," along with "Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People)" from "Killers of the Flower Moon," "The Fire Inside" from "Flamin' Hot," and "It Never Went Away" from "American Symphony."
