This shows that the coastline has been mapped from an earlier time, when it was not covered by an ice cap more than 1.6km thick.

Ohlmeyer's letter confirmed Dr. Hapgood's theory that the Piri Reis map could have been copied from an ancient map. Hapgood also points out that the map used spherical trigonometry, a knowledge that is believed to have been invented in the eighteenth century, even though the Piri Reis map dates back to 1513.

The mysteries surrounding the Piri Reis map and other strange features such as the Pyramids are increasing speculation about the possibility that humans once inhabited Antarctica thousands of years ago.
