With business losses, his family could not stay in the city and had to decide to return to their hometown to reduce expenses.

In early 2022, the actor was hospitalized for cirrhosis, kidney failure... After passing through death's door, his life became even more difficult and miserable. Bac Hai's family is renting a room in Nhon Trach district, Dong Nai province. At the age of 55, he not only has severe cirrhosis, kidney atrophy, but also has an open spine, living in pain. Due to economic exhaustion, he was not treated well.

His son, who is only in 6th grade, had to stop going to school because his family could not afford it. His wife had to quit her job to take care of her husband, so the family had no source of income.

According to Bac Hai, he had once been through a life-threatening illness and was fortunate to receive support from colleagues and audiences. When he was hospitalized for the second time, Bac Hai's assets were only 7 million VND, while he had to pay 20 million VND in medical expenses.

At this time, he asked someone to bail him out so that he could delay paying the hospital fees. Later, comedian Viet Huong sent Bac Hai 20 million VND for medical treatment.

"Without everyone's support, I wouldn't be here today. After the first serious illness, I stopped receiving support and went back to singing to earn money to cover my living expenses. That night, I took 3 shows, could only stand in one place, and couldn't move on stage. After that, I was hospitalized a second time in a more critical condition. I was completely paralyzed, couldn't move, and had to be transferred to 3 hospitals. I continued to receive help from my brothers and colleagues," Bac Hai recalled.

Sharing with reporters, Bac Hai once choked up when talking about his current life. He confided that his life now lacks everything, and that he has been pushed to the brink of death many times. Asking for help because he doesn't have enough money to cover his living expenses, Bac Hai confided that he felt ashamed because he was afraid that many people who didn't understand would think he was taking advantage of his kindness. However, he said that because he was at the end of his rope, he had to put his pride aside.

In early 2025, Bac Hai experienced another "near-death experience". His health is now more stable but he still has to take regular medication. Currently, he and his wife continue to import dried fish to sell online. The profits earned are also used to continue treatment.

Bac Hai said that after two serious illnesses, he was left with nothing. He and his wife survived by selling goods online.

Talking about performing, Bac Hai said he has always been passionate about being on stage but there are not many opportunities left. Bac Hai's main acting is comedy but he can also act in movies and plays.

However, he knows that the stage will give priority to young artists, newly graduated actors or famous veteran artists in the profession. Knowing this, he encourages himself that "artists like me also have little chance to compete".
