In the past few days, social media has reported that Amber Heard is calling for donations to cover her life and compensate her ex-husband after being lost at the court hearing on June 1. However, TMZ recently confirmed that the account of the female star Aquaman's name on websites calling for money donations are fake.
According to TMZ, a woman named Kimberly Moore launched a fundraiser on the GoFundMe website to help Amber Heard pay for Johnny Depp's compensation after the lawsuit.
Moore claims to have contacted Heard's legal team and confirmed the Aquaman actor has the right to use all the money raised.
"I believe Amber, and social media, have protected the abuser. The sentence was beyond her ability to pay and contributed to the increased abuse. It's sad that he (Johnny Depp) could get rid of this charge. Please, if possible, help Amber," the description of the campaign reads.
However, after only a few days, the fundraising account was deleted by GoFundMe because of many users reporting it. The audience questioned whether Heard was really related to the site.
TMZ confirmed: "We can confirm Amber and her team did not create this page. We have been informed that the GoFundMe platform continues to have fake accounts and act that way."
Heard was found guilty of three counts against Depp in a defamation trial on June 1. The jury ordered her to pay her ex-husband $10 million in punitive damages and $350,000 in punitive damages.
According to CBS News, Heard couldn't afford it when his total assets were only about 3 million USD. As a result, she can file for bankruptcy. At that time, she was exempted from the $10 million in damages. However, Heard still had to pay $350,000 in punitive damages.
In the opposite direction, the jury also found that Heard was partly affected by the lawsuit against Depp, so he received $ 2 million in compensation. This amount is paid by the actor.
The question arises: What behavior did Johnny Depp do to make the jury hold the actor responsible and pay $2 million to his ex-wife?
According to India Today, the case between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard became confusing when both were defendants and plaintiffs. Initially, according to the application filed with the court, the 59-year-old actor was the petitioner.
He is seeking $50 million in damages from his ex-wife, alleging that an article Heard wrote for the Washington Post in 2018 titled "I spoke out against sexual violence and faced the outrage of popular culture. That must change" damaged his reputation, leaving him struggling to find a foothold in Hollywood.
However, the actress protested against her ex-husband, accusing Johnny Depp of staging a "smear campaign" against her. So, Heard counter-sued Depp and demanded $100 million in damages. Heard's counterclaim revolves around statements from Depp's former lawyer Adam Waldman in the Daily Mail previously.
Mr. Waldman has accused Heard of "falsification" and "fraud" in making domestic violence allegations against Depp. Therefore, the actress believes that with her statements, Depp's lawyer has made her lose great opportunities in acting.
From the position of the defendant, Depp became the plaintiff in Heard's case and vice versa. In this case, the jury must simultaneously consider the vast amount of evidence to make a final decision on two cases.
According to The Independent, the compensation of $ 10.35 million that Depp received out of a total of $ 50 million in the initial lawsuit came from the court and jury finding that the amount of damage the actor suffered. just stop at the number mentioned above.
In addition, during deliberation, the jury found that Depp, through his former attorney Adam Waldman, had lied to Heard as one of the three counts listed in the counterclaim. Heard received $2 million in damages.
However, Heard's side did not agree with the jury's decision and announced that it would not pay the fine.
After Heard's statement, experts and lawyers in the US analyzed the solutions that Depp will take to get this money back.
On Style Caster, lawyer Stacy Phillips of the company Blank Rome LLP said that the actor could claim the above money by taking Heard's salary in two upcoming films, Run Away With Me and In the Fire. In addition, Depp can also become the new owner in his ex-wife's house in Yucca Valley, California (USA). The actress bought this house with 2019 for $ 570,000. The house is currently valued at about $1 million on the market.
"If Heard doesn't have enough money to pay Depp, he can ask for a service order and summon Heard to court. Here, his lawyer will ask questions like: 'Heard owns the properties. What property, what property...?' Depp's representative will find ways to force Heard to pay the full amount of $ 10.35 million to Heard," said lawyer Stacy Phillips.
Attorney Brett Turnbull, co-founder of Turnbull Holcomb & Lemoine, told the New York Post that the Virginia sentences are valid for 10 years and can be extended for another 30 years.
"During this time, if Heard earns a new amount of money and is discovered by Depp, he will continue to pursue to the end to get the said money back," this person said.
