At that time, the male driver of bus number 27 (Ben Thanh - An Suong route) was running on Truong Chinh Street, towards Trung Chanh intersection, District 12.

Just past the 10m underground tunnel, on the territory of Highway 22, the driver saw fire and smoke rising from the front of the car, opened the door to run away and shouted. At the time of the fire on the bus, there was only the driver, no passengers. District 12 Fire Police dispatched a specialized vehicle to extinguish the fire after 20 minutes. According to the Center for Public Transport Management in Ho Chi Minh City, when the bus suddenly caught fire, there were no passengers, only a driver and the bus attendant.

"I heard the passenger sitting in the back shouting 'fire, fire', looking back, I saw the fire was burning. I quickly stopped the car and opened the two doors to let everyone run down," said driver Luc, suspecting an electrical short.

The fire then spread to the seats in the middle of the car. Many people brought nearly 20 mini fire extinguishers to put out the fire. Nearly a dozen firemen and fire trucks in Tan Phu district, about 1.5 km away, quickly arrived at the scene and pulled water cannons to extinguish the fire.

The fire took about 15 minutes to burn down many rows of seats, and the car was covered in black smoke. Passengers are supported by bus staff to take the next trip or pick up a Grab car to continue their journey.
