After her downfall, Zhao Wei faced numerous difficulties: her assets were frozen, she was heavily in debt, her reputation suffered, and her beauty faded, leaving the public surprised by her current situation.
Recently, Zhao Wei – the famous actress who rose to fame with the hit drama "Princess Huanzhu" – has been going through an unprecedented difficult period in her career and personal life. Many sources reveal that her assets are being frozen, and her financial situation is extremely dire. A debt of just 14,000 RMB (approximately 51 million VND) alone is putting immense pressure on Zhao Wei, as she is unable to repay it.
Besides financial difficulties, Zhao Wei has also been constantly the subject of social media discussions with shocking news, ranging from her terminal illness and death rumors to controversies involving her ex-husband's family and suspected business dealings. These rumors have further damaged the "Little Swallow's" image in the eyes of the public.
On December 10th, netizens were surprised to spot Zhao Wei eating at a street food stall. The images, captured by passersby, showed the actress with a swollen, gaunt face, a stark contrast to her usual elegant appearance. On social media, people were abuzz, with many expressing regret at seeing Zhao Wei's beauty decline to the point of having to eat at such a simple restaurant. However, some argued that despite her financial difficulties, her life wasn't yet at its lowest point: Zhao Wei still travels throughout China, and her swollen face was mainly due to weight gain since the beginning of the year.
At the end of 2024, Zhao Wei officially announced her separation from businessman Huang Youlong. She affirmed that she no longer had any connection with her ex-husband and hoped the public would avoid involving her in negative information or debts related to Huang Youlong. However, according to Sinchew, despite the divorce, Zhao Wei still faces legal pressure and liability from economic lawsuits related to her ex-husband and his family.
In early August, Zhao Wei's total assets, valued at 15.9 million RMB (over 55 billion VND), were frozen due to their connection to her sister-in-law Huang Li's company. During her relationship with Huang Youlong, Zhao Wei had vouched for this company. When the company fell into debt in 2021, her sister-in-law evaded responsibility, and her ex-husband went abroad, leaving Zhao Wei to bear the consequences. She even faced threats from gangsters due to her involvement in the debt.
Furthermore, Zhao Wei also had to pay $13 million USD (approximately 340 billion VND) in compensation to partners she and her ex-husband were involved in a stock market fraud case in 2017. Since then, the former star has faced more than 500 lawsuits of varying sizes, but has only resolved about 100. The relentless pressure of litigation and compensation has exhausted Zhao Wei financially and physically, to the point where even small debts like 14,000 RMB have become a burden. Last April, she was listed by the court as a "debt defaulter" for failing to repay her debts.
According to Sinchew, with her massive debt and being blacklisted from artistic activities, Zhao Wei faces the risk of declaring bankruptcy. At the end of July, the villa in Hong Kong – where she once lived with her ex-husband – was auctioned off to settle debts. Shares under her name have been repeatedly frozen by the court. The former "Little Swallow," once the owner of many large companies, now only has a small office in Shanghai struggling to stay afloat.
