Taylor Swift has made a large donation to help people suffering from the devastating effects of Hurricanes Helene and Milton. The singer was thanked by the nonprofit relief organization Feeding America.
Accordingly, on the evening of October 9 (US time, or the morning of October 10 Vietnam time), Hurricane Milton made landfall in Siesta Key, Florida, USA, with winds of up to 193 km/h. According to warnings, Milton maintained its storm intensity as it moved through central Florida until the morning of October 10.
The damage toll is not yet known, but the fifth hurricane to hit the US this year is expected to be as destructive as Hurricane Helene a few weeks ago. According to Page Six, Hurricane Helene claimed the lives of more than 230 people and caused extensive property damage that the state of Florida is still recovering from.
While no Hollywood stars have been reported affected by Hurricane Milton, Tom Cruise and Taylor Swift are two names that might be worried.
The Daily Mail reported that the 1962-born actor and Scientology sect's luxury apartment complex, called The Sandcastle, in Clearwater, Florida, is expected to be in the eye of the storm.
Of all the residents at the high-rise complex, Tom Cruise should be the most concerned, as he lives in the penthouse. The action star reportedly moved there in 2018 to facilitate the cult's activities.
On the same day Milton landed in Florida, Tom was spotted landing at London's Battersea Airport with his sister Marian, actors Simone Coppo and Martina Ferragamo.
Meanwhile, Taylor Swift is at risk of having to cancel her Eras Tour show in Miami, Florida.
The concerts are scheduled for October 18-20, well before Milton makes landfall. Miami is not in the path of the storm, according to local meteorologists. However, Milton is expected to cause travel disruptions around Florida, which could prevent fans from getting to the city.
Many fans who had tickets to the show in Miami posted about their concerns about not being able to see their idol perform due to the storm.
This has angered many locals, who have criticized the Swifties for only caring about a show that can be rescheduled, while ignoring the fact that many people are in danger. According to the Daily Mail, people in Tampa Bay and the west coast of Florida have been warned to evacuate ahead of the storm because staying indoors will almost certainly lead to death.
Taylor Swift has not announced whether or not to postpone her three shows at Hard Rock Stadium.
Amid controversy, Taylor was praised for donating millions of dollars to Florida for hurricane relief.
"We are incredibly grateful to Taylor Swift for her generous $5 million donation to the Helene and Milton relief efforts. This donation will help communities rebuild and recover, providing essential food, clean water, and essential supplies to those impacted by these two devastating storms. Together, we can make a real impact in supporting families and helping them overcome the challenges ahead. Thank you Taylor Swift for joining us in ending hunger and helping communities in need," wrote Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, CEO of Feeding America.
They also encouraged viewers to "join Taylor Swift if you can" and donate.
This isn't the first time Taylor Swift has stepped up to donate during a time of crisis. Last December, the Down Bad singer donated $1 million to the Tennessee Emergency Response Fund after the state was hit by tornadoes.
In June 2024, Taylor Swift donated food at stops on her Eras Tour in the UK, providing "three meals a day for 1,200 people over three days - the equivalent of 10,800 meals," according to Rachel Biggs, CEO of Cardiff Foodbank.
