Nearly a week has passed, but Donald Trump still seems unable to accept Taylor Swift's choice of Kamala Harris in the November election as he continues to criticize the singer.
The former US President wrote on the social networking platform Truth Social on September 15: "I hate Taylor Swift."
Notably, the text was capitalized to emphasize Mr. Trump's intense feelings for the pop superstar.
In just 5 days, Mr. Trump has made 3 consecutive public attacks on Taylor.
Hours after Taylor announced her vote for Harris on Instagram on September 11, Trump warned the Fortnight hitmaker that she could pay a price for choosing the Democratic Party and opposing him.
On September 13, Mr. Trump released a copy of a T-shirt sold during Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour as campaign merchandise.
The shirt is copied almost entirely from the image layout, color to font. The difference is that the photo of Taylor is replaced with a photo of Mr. Trump and the content of the text printed on the shirt.
Taylor Swift fans were outraged by this copyright infringement, and condemned the elderly Mr. Trump for being picky with a young woman just because she had her own political views.
Mr. Trump's behavior has made many people uncomfortable, including Scooter Braun - a music producer who had a dispute with the "Princess of Country Music".
On September 15, Braun posted a screenshot of Trump's message on Instagram Story, with the caption: "Stop it Donald."
In 2019, Scooter Braun bought Taylor's former label Big Machine Records for $300 million, giving Braun ownership of the blonde beauty's original music from 2006 to 2017.
At the time, Taylor said on Tumblr that she felt devastated that her master recordings had been sold to Braun.
"Scooter took away my life's work, something I had no chance of buying back. Essentially, my musical legacy is about to be in the hands of someone who tried to destroy it," Taylor wrote.
Regarding the dispute between Braun and Taylor, on February 11, Mr. Trump criticized the singer for being ungrateful on Truth Social.
He pointed out that during his term in office (2017-2021), he signed and was responsible for the Music Modernization Act to support the careers of Taylor and other artists.
With this act, Taylor came up with the idea of re-recording her first six studio albums to devalue the old material that was now in Braun's hands. From there, she regained ownership of the lyrics, vocals, and albums. She still used her old name but added the suffix "Taylor's Version".
For that reason, Mr. Trump found it puzzling that Taylor supported Mr. Biden instead of being loyal to him.
Taylor Swift has not commented on Mr. Trump's hatred of her. On September 15, she was smiling and cheering for her boyfriend Travis Kelce at the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Cincinnati Bengals.
Meanwhile, some netizens have suggested that Mr. Trump is insecure about Taylor Swiftâs popularity and influence. Her not siding with the real estate billionaire could cost him a significant number of votes, and could even change the situation, given the exceptionally large Swiftie community.
In contrast to Trump, Kamala Harris' campaign took advantage of Trump's "I hate Taylor Swift" statement. Harris's side issued a lengthy statement, including 28 mentions of the singer's song title or lyrics.
The post, released by the Democratic candidateâs campaign on the morning of September 15, was titled âTrumpâs Bad Week (Taylor Edition).â The statement began, âWeâre pretty sure this was a week that broke Mr. Trump. He spent the week processing his emotions, complaining about a lot of things.â
Swiftâs audience noticed Harrisâs repeated references to Taylor Swiftâs work shortly after the announcement. The large number of songs referenced by the vice presidential campaign suggests they did their homework.
The release of a post mentioning the Cardigan singer after Mr. Trump said "I hate Taylor Swift" helped Ms. Harris's campaign receive a lot of support from Swifties (Swift's fan base).
According to Variety, the total number of times Ms. Harris mentioned Taylor Swift was up to 28 times, including songs such as Safe & Sound, Call It What You Want, Shake It Off, Bad Blood, Blank Space, The Last Time, The Story of Us, 1989... In the post, Ms. Harris said that "Mr. Trump is too emotional to be the US president".
