Sitala is a female Kpop idol who used to be active in the girl group H1-KEY, but she later left the group. Sitala had a bad past before her debut, when she was boycotted en masse, in South Korea and her hometown of Thailand.
Sitala was born in 1996 in Thailand, her full name is Sitala Wongkrachang. She is the daughter of famous actor Sarunyu Wongkrachang. On November 30, 2021, Sitala was officially announced as the fourth and final member of the girl group H1-KEY, part of the Grandline Group. The group debuted on January 5, 2022 with the single Athletic Girl.
She used to be a rare Kpop female idol in the top 100 most beautiful faces in the world. She is ranked with many other famous beauties, in which in Korea there are famous idols such as Lisa, Nancy, Rosé....
Previously, after announcing her presence in the H1-KEY group, Sitala was violently boycotted by the Korean media and her hometown of Thailand, which is a rare case when an idol who has not yet debuted has been subjected to a harsh reaction. Accordingly, starting from November 23, 2021, the 4 members of H1-KEY were revealed one after another on the group's official SNS. It is known that H1-KEY will include 3 Korean members, Yel, Seoi, Riina and 1 Thai member, Sitala. However, when the last piece of the group was announced, an unprecedented wave of fierce controversy quickly broke out when Thai netizens discovered the relationship between the Sitala family and the country's military.
It would not be worth mentioning if her entire family, including Sitala, was found to have long supported the Thai military and dictatorship. In a photo posted on social media, Sitala is seen wearing a shirt with a message of support for the dictatorship.
In the years 2020 - 2022, the political situation in Thailand has become more unstable than ever when protests and riots take place like meals and people constantly speak out against the government's extravagance and dictatorship. The situation is so serious that many famous Thai artists, whether active in Thailand or abroad, have also openly expressed their political views, most of which choose to side with the people and protest against the government's misdeeds.
Faced with that situation, Sitala is an unreleased rookie female idol who has been found to support the dictatorship, Sitala quickly made Thai Twitter waves. Hashtags and posters #BANSITALA have been spreading all over Twitter as Thai netizens simultaneously boycotted the female idol, demanding that the management company immediately cancel Sitala's debut and let her leave H1-KEY if she doesn't want the whole group to be involved.
Most importantly, Thailand is not the only market that has voiced opposition to Sitala's launch plan. Immediately after learning about the context of the Sitala family, Korean netizens also quickly sided with the Thais and unanimously agreed that letting a member involved in a political controversy leave the group immediately and is always the only way for Grandline Group to save H1-KEY at this time. With the majority of Koreans vehemently opposing the dictatorship in Thailand, if Sitala is still in the group, it is almost certain that H1-KEY will lose its main market, South Korea, and be boycotted when it officially launches.
Some netizens sent comments to Sitala: "The company needs to get rid of her immediately and always. It would be absurd to launch a supporter of the dictatorship. Otherwise, in the future, even drug criminals will be able to debut", "It has not been 100 years since the dictatorship was born, so it is absurd to debut the daughter of a dictator like you.."; "In the past, it was a dispute between Hong Kong and China, but now what is it... A supporter of the dictatorship is about to make his debut???"; " Are they crazy... Get out now"; "What the hell is this... Daughter of a dictator? It's not too late, the company should quickly remove her"; "This is not an ordinary argument, it has to do with politics,...
On December 8, 2021, Grandline Group issued a statement in this regard, saying that it was very cautious in the face of the backlash and must consider Thailand's historical, political, economic, and social context to understand the issue. After reviewing the matters related to Sitala, the company concluded that she could not be held responsible because "her father's past decisions and actions were beyond her responsibility".
Grandline Group emphasized that Seatala's decision to list her father as a role model was based on his role as a parent and not on his political views and actions. It has also been announced that the group's lineup will not change and Sitala is currently reflecting. However, despite these statements from the company, Sitala will eventually withdraw from H1-KEY on its own on May 25, 2022.
