Supermodel Phuong Mai once made her parents extremely sad and angry when she decided to pursue art instead of education.
"My father wants from me, my mother cries"
Born in 1990, Phuong Mai is a pretty popular name in the Vietnamese model village in 2009, 2010. Phuong Mai once reached the top 10 of the Asian Super Model contest, in 2010 she reached the semi-finals of the Miss Vietnam World contest. Won the Vietnam Supermodel Gold Award 2012.
Not only prominent in the catwalk village, Phuong Mai also participated in many cult movies: Plot of high heels, Ghost apartment, When love speaks, 13 female prisoners...
Currently, Phuong Mai has retired from modeling to pursue the role of MC. Share in the program Narrative that her journey to become a model was quite accidental:
"The dream of joining the entertainment industry was rekindled in me since I was very young. When I was 13 years old, I had a dream of becoming a model. The person who gave me the thought of becoming a model was my biological sister - a fashion designer.
At that time, she took a picture of me and called me Naomi Campbell even though I didn't know who Naomi was at that time. I grew up very ugly, black and skinny like a boy but had a dream of becoming a model so my friends were all surprised.
Maybe when we want something too much, the universe sends the opportunity down. Other than my height, I didn't have anything, but at that time the Hoa Ca newspaper held the Miss Kao contest and I don't know who signed me up for the contest. As a result, I was loved by everyone and became a model."
However, Phuong Mai's road to conquering the modeling career was not so smooth. She encountered a harsh reaction from her family, especially her parents. Even Phuong Mai was rejected by her parents:
"What I miss the most is the harsh reaction of my family. My father even gave up on me, didn't talk to me for a long time, my mother cried...
My sister joined the fashion industry, but as a designer, my parents thought that the designer would be "better", without any temptation. In fact, at that time I was preparing to study abroad but all of a sudden I said: I won't go anymore, I'm a model. Any parent would be shocked to hear that news.
Then I myself did things that made my parents sad and worried. For example, when I received an invitation to act in a movie, my parents didn't want to let me go because filming in Tuyen Quang was quite far, but in the middle of the night I took my things and left following the call of my passion.
It's true that I'm young, I've never stumbled, so I made many mistakes that upset my parents. I really need to apologize to my parents."
"I don't blame my parents at all."
Phuong Mai frankly said, the stories of the first days entering the model village are always deeply imprinted in her memory:
"I think any child whose parents are so angry that it's hard to forget. But I feel proud that in the face of such great pressure, I still dare to walk, still dare to pursue something. that I want".
Phuong Mai's relationship with her parents was only reconciled when the female supermodel won the first success in the Asian Supermodel contest:
"I have a catwalk teacher, a soulmate for me to confide in. He said: It doesn't matter what you do, only when you succeed, people will recognize and be happy for you.
I've worked hard, whatever opportunity comes my way, I'll give it my all. When I was 19 years old, I was sent to China for the Asian Super Model contest and I worked so hard that I didn't sleep a night until before the contest. When I entered the top 10, I still didn't tell my parents.
When the information appeared in the newspaper, my uncle went online to check if the contest was real or not. Then he printed a picture of me in the top 10 and brought it to my mother's house to see and persuaded that everyone should support me because I worked so hard."
Phuong Mai revealed that her relationship with her parents was only reconciled when she won her first success at the Asian Supermodel contest.
Phuong Mai admitted that her parents' fierce objections had a significant impact on the female supermodel:
"I've always thought that having the support of everyone in my family makes my path to success easier.
When I don't have the support of my parents, it's really not good for me to do anything. My interview also did not go well, because my parents did not like me in the press, did not like me to be famous.
But I don't blame my parents. Now that I am a mother and have children, I understand even more that I am not sure what my children want to do I like. And there's nothing wrong with parents' first reaction to protest."
