According to a news site, the company that is enjoying great success with the "say hi universe" is reportedly planning to acquire the rights to the popular show Produce 101 and is expected to produce the first season in early 2026.
As soon as this information emerged, the online community, especially Kpop fans, quickly expressed their excitement, as this could be the first time Vietnam has had direct access to the popular survival show model that once created a sensation throughout Asia.
Furthermore, social media has recently been spreading more information allegedly related to the show's preparations. According to unverified reports, filming is expected to begin in January, with trainees carefully selected from the very first round.
Notably, the program is likely to invite two mentors from Kpop. The male mentor is rumored to be Vietnamese, while the female mentor is Korean and a member of a leading 4th-generation girl group. Both share the commonality of having previously trained under Mnet's system, and the groups they were part of won the GMA 2022 awards.
The following details further fueled speculation among netizens. The male mentor was described as a former street dance group leader who had two years of training at Hybe, while the female mentor's name was revealed to contain the letter "i". Based on these clues, many quickly speculated that the male mentor could be Hanbin , while the female mentor could be YuJin. Although all of this remains speculation, the information is enough to pique audience interest and anticipation for official confirmation from the production team.
In fact, survival shows haven't just recently gained public attention. For many years, this model has proven its overwhelming appeal, most notably Produce 101, a program that created a huge sensation in South Korea.
Not confined to a single country, this format quickly spread to Japan, China, and many other markets, with versions familiar to Vietnamese audiences such as Youth With You and Produce Camp.
Meanwhile, while Vietnam has successfully purchased the rights to and produced many foreign programs such as The Amazing Race and Running Man, survival shows aimed at creating boy bands are still relatively rare.
This hesitation stems from several factors. To organize a program modeled after Produce 101, the number of contestants in the first round can reach over 100. Of these, at least 20 contestants must possess sufficient skills and charisma to create competition. The more evenly matched the contestants are, the more intense the competition, and the more engaging the show becomes. Conversely, if the disparity is too great and the results are predictable, the show's appeal will quickly diminish.
The reason programs like Produce 101, Youth With You, and Produce Camp are successful is because the contestants already have a solid foundation, having been trainees at entertainment companies or students from prestigious art schools. Many have even debuted before, have a certain level of recognition, or have participated in similar programs. However, even in large markets like South Korea or China, finding high-quality contestants has never been an easy task.
In Vietnam, the risk of a shortage of suitable contestants is even more apparent. And even if the program is successfully organized and produces a music group, the next question is who will manage and develop a long-term strategy for the group.
Hanbin caused a stir in the Korean media, was praised as the best in TEMPEST, and promised to do something special for Vietnamese fans
