Social networks spread the information that MC Quyen Linh was arrested, causing a stir in public opinion and making many people bewildered. Posts with sensational titles such as "MC Quyen Linh was arrested" appeared densely on online platforms.
However, on December 8, when talking to the media, Quyen Linh completely denied the above false information. The male MC said that he is still working normally, has just finished his work schedule in Hanoi and is currently present at a meeting related to the Cinema Association. He affirmed that there was no arrest as the articles on the Internet went viral.
Quyen Linh shared that he himself was not too surprised by this rumor, because this is not the first time he, as well as many other artists, have become victims of fabricated content on social networks. What worries him more is the rapid spread of false information and the negative impact it has on public opinion.
"In the past few days, many friends have also sent me this information. After that, there were also acquaintances and relatives who watched my livestream and commented that it was too lucky that the information was not true," Quyen Linh said. "Recently, not only me but many artists have been faked by fake information or AI-generated images and videos. So I hope the public is alert and selective about the content."
Quyen Linh's sharing reflects a painful problem in the era of strong development of AI technology and social networks: fake news spreads at a rapid speed, and the victims are mainly famous faces who have great influence in the community. They are not only insulted by their honor and image, but also face long-term consequences when fake content is created in an elaborate and sophisticated way.
Not only Quyen Linh, a few days ago, actress Nhat Kim Anh was also entangled in a similar situation. Some social media accounts spread a series of articles confirming that she was arrested or fled after the prosecution order. The rumors were so serious that many viewers were confused and shared constantly. Immediately afterwards, Nhat Kim Anh's manager had to correct the press that this was completely fabricated information. At the time the rumor spread, the actress was going to a temple with her mother in Taiwan, not related to any negative incidents.
The above consecutive incidents are no longer strange to Vietnamese artists. In just a short time, a series of famous faces such as Duc Phuc, Cat Tuong, Dam Thu Trang, My Tam, Ho Ngoc Ha, BTV Hoai Anh... have simultaneously warned of the unauthorized use of images and voices by AI in fraudulent advertising clips. Many videos are sophisticatedly staged, making it difficult for the audience to distinguish between real and fake, leading to easy temptation to buy low-quality products or be financially scammed.
Ho Ngoc Ha is one of the artists heavily affected by this problem. In a post on November 14, the female singer expressed her helplessness when she was constantly labeled in advertisements for household appliances, medicines, and cosmetics. Some consumers think it's real, buy products because they think they are guaranteed by Ho Ngoc Ha, and then suffer the consequences of "losing money". Many viewers after being deceived turned to blame the female singer even though she was completely uninvolved.
The situation of artists being taken advantage of their images for profit, or being spread fake news to attract views and interactive sentences has existed for many years but is becoming more and more serious as deepfake technology and AI flourish. Fabricated videos or articles are produced quickly, go viral, disrupt information and make it difficult for the public to distinguish what is real.
