In recent days, the incident of Jisoo's new song Earthquake was discovered to have the exact same bea.t as Vietnamese singer Quang Hung MasterD's song First Love Too Much, causing fierce controversy between Kpop and Vpop fans.
Specifically, the product was composed by Jisoo and produced by an international team. earthquake is a moderately vibrant mix, helping to highlight her special husky voice. The bea.t is attractive, the tempo is fast and interesting enough to match the Kpop-style choreography. earthquake has a fairly close "vibe", reminiscent of Flower, the previous solo hit of BLACKPINK's eldest sister.
However, the newly released song has been suspected of plagiarism. Specifically, a TikTok channel compared Jisoo's earthquake with "Tinh Dau Qua Chen" by Anh Trai Say Hi. Tinh Dau Qua Chen was composed by Quang Hung MasterD. Accordingly, Jisoo's highlight bea.t was pointed out to have a melody and rhythm quite similar to the chorus of Tinh Dau Qua Chen. The hypothesis that Jisoo referenced Quang Hung's music was put forward, and many Anh Trai Say Hi fans even agreed with this statement.
However, some Kpop fans believe that with a name and a globally famous level like Jisoo, plagiarism is completely impossible, even saying that Jisoo doesn't even know who Quang Hung is, and cannot be compared. Immediately, this topic went viral, causing a female tiktoker to be unable to sit still and quickly join in.
Specifically, a tiktoker with a channel named Hoa Quynh No, with more than 380 thousand followers, released a clip defending Quang Hung and Vietnamese music, while praising the male artist's talent. The nearly 3-minute clip received more than 2 million views and hundreds of thousands of interactions. The female tiktoker said: "If Jisoo came out later in Vietnam, it would be plagiarism. But now that Jisoo came out after Quang Hung, it will definitely be divided into two factions. Jisoo's faction says Jisoo is of international class, the whole company, how could anyone copy, they don't even know who Quang Hung is, why bother copying.
But if Quang Hung is really good, what if people copy him? I'm Vietnamese, guys. For example, if someone copies a foreign bea.t, you guys will all get upset, saying it's plagiarism, this and that, and you won't be able to lift your heads. But here, I think it's too similar, from the music to the dance. I don't know if the two teams listened to another bea.t and then created it themselves. There are many times when someone else thinks exactly the same about my idea. Life will have cases like that.
In the second case, Quang Hung is extremely famous in Thailand. I think Quang Hung will be very famous in the future. Quang Hung's beats are never boring to listen to over and over again. Quang Hung is not simple, guys. He is a very talented person. People listen to him a lot in Thailand, and people listen to him in Korea too, so how do you know? But really, in this case, we don't know who copied who, but if we put Quang Hung in the case later, he would definitely lose."
The female tiktoker added: "Currently, Jisoo's popularity is too great, no one asks, no one sues, no one does anything. But in Quang Hung's case, it's a bit tiring. In this case, I think Quang Hung doesn't do anything, doesn't care, it's like each person lives in their own country. With the personality of Quang Hung and the team here, I think they will say it's just coincidentally similar."
"I'm not a fan of anyone, but I think Jisoo and Quang Hung are both talented. I hope you guys will release more artistic products and contribute to enriching music. I'm not defending or criticizing anyone," the female tiktoker added at the end of the clip.
Regarding Jisoo's new product, earthquake recorded a decrease in performance in Korea compared to Flower before. In the first hour of its release, the song did not even make it into the top 100 of MelOn - Korea's largest music listening platform. By 6:00 p.m. on February 14 (Korean time), earthquake rose to #21 Bugs, #121 Genie and debuted at #100 MelOn. This achievement is somewhat controversial, because Jisoo is one of the most famous and well-received female idols in Korea.
