In 1997, the film Land of the South, adapted from the novel Land of the South, was broadcast, creating a "fever" in the Vietnamese television world. The sincere, rustic but resilient and affectionate life of the people of the West is depicted through the lives of two boys An and Co.

If baby An (Hung Thuan) impresses with his intelligence and docility, Co (Phung Ngoc) won the hearts of the audience thanks to his cleverness and honesty. After the success of the film, the audience's impression of the child actor pair is still very deep.

But more than 20 years have passed, baby An and Mr. Co have now become adult men with separate ways. If after many ups and downs, the actor who plays baby An has become a real estate giant, the life of "The Stork" Phung Ngoc is still very difficult and full of worries.

Despite making a strong impression with the role of Co, Phung Ngoc is not really charming with Vietnamese cinema. At the end of the role, the actor returned to normal life, and it was not until 2002 that he reappeared in a small role in the film Grandfather and Grandson. Since then, Phung Ngoc has almost "disappeared" from the film industry.

Phung Ngoc shakes off the aura of his youth, he is ready to make a living by many professions: Security guard, haircut, street clothes seller, motorbike taxi driver... Phung Ngoc's life was so difficult that there was a time. he has to borrow money to buy an old motorbike to drive motorbike taxi. Sharing in an interview, Phung Ngoc said that he had dropped out of school since the 9th grade and returned to his hometown to work as a barber. Despite being very young, Phung Ngoc did not live with her father but rented a house to live independently.

Phung Ngoc also no longer has the smart and funny look of the character of the Stork, in rare public appearances, he is shy with the image of a misty man with a stout, sloppy body.

Regarding private life, Phung Ngoc is currently single. In his life, he had two women that he loved wholeheartedly, mother and wife, but both soon left him. Born into a family that was not very well off, sad things began to happen when Phung Ngoc was in 2nd grade. At that time, his mother was pregnant for the second time and the whole family was very excited to prepare to welcome a new member. .

However, before giving birth, Phung Ngoc's mother suddenly had a miscarriage, bleeding and could not survive. Having suffered from mourning since childhood, Phung Ngoc always thought: "If only I had 2 or 3 brothers, the family would be happier...".

When growing up, Phung Ngoc's sadness gradually eased when he went to Saigon and had the opportunity to try his hand at cinema. Despite impressing with a few big roles, the acting work of "Stork" lasted only a few years. Finally, because he did not have money to live in the city, he decided to give up his art career to return to Binh Duong to work as a general worker.

When he returned to his hometown to set up a business, Phung Ngoc fell in love with a girl from Quang Tri who worked hard, suffered. Both of them should be married to each other when they go through the time to learn and love each other wholeheartedly. I don't remember the specific date and month of marriage, but Phung Ngoc said that his married life lasted for more than 7 years, leading to a breakdown.

"Besides my mother, she is by far the woman that I love and respect the most" - Phung Ngoc confided.

From the day her marriage broke up, Phung Ngoc had no intention of finding a new woman because she could not get out of poverty and meet someone she liked. Referring to his life, the actor said that it seems that the name of the character of the stork was in his life: "My life is like dust... Every day, I struggle with all kinds of jobs to make a living. Sometimes I find the name "Stork" really suitable for me. Just fly and fly and then stop again when tired..."

In 2015, Phung Ngoc caused a stir because of an accident, his finger was necrotic, but he did not have money for treatment. At that time, "Baby An" Hung Thuan stood up to help his co-star. Also in this year, he returned to the screen with a small role in 2 skits What Age and Selfie, belonging to a series of short comedy episodes.

In 2019, Phung Ngoc reunited with the cast of the movie Dat Nam in the program "Happy memories". Meeting his co-stars again, Phung Ngoc did not complain about his own difficult life, nor compared himself with others, he expressed his joy when his co-stars were still healthy and happy.

Hung Thuan tearfully recounted his first filming day with actor Phung Ngoc. Even now, Hung Thuan still remembers exactly that it was February 23, 1996. "That day was January 23, 1996, around 4-5 am, the crew departed to shoot the first scene of the film. At that time, neither Thuan nor Ngoc thought that they would go to film at all, but only thought that an outing.

By the time Uncle Vinh Son directed the film to act, the two of them just put themselves in it, but didn't know how to act," Hung Thuan said. Especially, there is a memory until now, Hung Thuan and Phung. Ngoc couldn't forget it either. That was the second time "the boy" rushed into a fight just for a very childish reason.

"That night when I filmed the night scene, I couldn't go back and forth, so angry the two guys rushed into each other to fight. The adults had to intervene, in the end both of them were hurt," recalls the Stork Phung Ngoc.

In the program, Phung Ngoc revealed that he still lived the wandering life before. He himself did not want to contact his co-stars in any year because: "I work all day, don't come back to Saigon, so I can't see everyone again. I have a phone number, but I rarely call them. Since everyone has their own job, I don't want to disturb everyone."
