Pham Toan Thang: "The witch makes hits" - author of "Mark of Rain", composed for "emotion", not for money

Pham Toan Thang is known as a talented singer and musician, but equally "impromptu" in the Vietnamese music industry. Most of his compositions have won major awards and left a mark in the hearts of fans.

Composer Pham Toan Thang (SN 1987) - songs he composed are often used in competitions to find musical talent. Not only is he a professional composer and gifted with awards, he is also a young singer with an impressive voice.

Few people know that he started composing music when he was only 17 years old. The song "Winter Girl" was penned - composed by him since he was still in school. The song resonated greatly and helped him become famous throughout the Vietnamese music market.

In a program, the male musician once shared , "Initially, the song was composed by me and served for my 4-season music series and my friends when I was about to graduate from high school. After that, Winter Girl was awarded spread widely on music forums as well as schools at that time. And the demo was sung by myself."

Thought that after the success of the song "Winter Girl", Toan Thang would immediately enter showbiz. However, he chose to withdraw himself. The male musician decided to take a moment of silence to study, experience and improve his living capital.

After graduating, Thang decided to return to the music race as a musician. In the following years, musician Toan Thang continuously released "ear-catching" songs that quickly rose to the top of the charts.

Pham Toan Thang once said: at that time he thought it was "lucky". He himself is not a well-trained person in music, but the melody and words just naturally appear in his head like a "spring".

He believes that every song needs to find someone who understands and is suitable to perform, instead of rushing to sell songs to any singer to make a living, he will wait for the day "that person" appears.

In 2010, he submitted the song "Drink tea" to the Vietnamese Song program and won the award "Outstanding Contemporary Rock Song". After that, he continuously released gentle, emotional ballad songs and in turn topped music charts. Pham Toan Thang shared - most of the songs were composed a long time ago but did not rush to publish.

Up to now, after many years of working with music, Toan Thang is called by the audience and people in the profession as a "hit-making witch". He shared, behind the success of the talented musician is a long way. All songs written by him are only to satisfy his own feelings, not to "make shoes" for any singer. This can be seen as a difference between the male musician and other music composers in Vietnam.

From a talented but self-deprecating student, Pham Toan Thang has now found his own "voice" in music and is ready to dedicate himself to his passion. It can be said that Pham Toan Thang is a live musician in favor of "emotions". He doesn't force himself to "write" to make money.

As for the song "April is my lie", it also comes from the author's own feelings after watching the animated movie of the same name. The "hit-making" musician added, " I want to write something beautiful that will always stay in my heart in this song ."

He likens the work of composing to collecting stones. Collecting pebbles day by day and then leaving them there, when the time is right, they will be taken out to refine into a product.

In 2019, Toan Thang opened a Cafe called Chill Phet - a place that sells light refreshments with singing activities with friends. Also from here, the male musician gradually "tempering" the release of new songs.

Sharing with the press, he said: "Thang still writes music, it's just that now he hasn't found the next person to collaborate with him. Moreover, Thang's music is not popular anymore. I write more for myself, and don't try to please anyone ."

Remembering the opportunities in his composing journey, the musician shared: " I often see my father making tea every morning to drink, sometimes I get up early to drink tea with him. Meanwhile, my mother will prepare tea. breakfast for the whole family, my sister prepares to go to work.

I feel that my family is very cute so I want to capture that moment. People think that drinking tea should be light, but I was born and raised in Saigon, so my way of drinking tea will also mix a bit of the fast, hustle rhythm of this place."

In a program, when referring to the song "Four Letters Lam" - a hit that brought success - Pham Toan Thang was touched: " This is a song composed on my grandfather's birthday. In my grandmother's birthday party. , I suddenly felt a feeling of distant feelings like the song Hon Vong Phu the whole family sang.The melodies in the song Four Letters also have the echoes of Hon Vong Phu. And especially, this song. composed within a short 15 minutes".

There are a number of prestigious awards - which musicians have received in recent years, such as: Outstanding Contemporary Rock-style Song of Vietnamese Songs in 2010; Creative Award of Vietnamese Song 2012; Promising Composer of Vietnamese Song 2013; Song of the Year by Vietnamese Song 2014; Blue Wave Harmony Award 2014...

After listening to his songs again, the musician has new emotions for his musical journey. Pham Toan Thang said that he will continue to write music according to his true feelings and hope that the audience will accept the truth through his compositions.
