People's Artist Tran Hieu was admitted to the emergency hospital, bone metastatic cancer, critical condition

People's Artist Tran Hieu, a big name in Vietnamese music, has just undergone nearly a month of intensive treatment at the hospital after being taken to the emergency room by his wife for serious bone metastatic cancer.

According to Ms. Minh Nga, on September 13, she took People's Artist Tran Hieu to the 108th Military Central Hospital. The reason for hospitalization was that the cancer had metastasized, causing foci of infection, serious abscesses in the teeth, nose and pus flowing up the jawbone. After the surgery here, on September 23, the male artist was transferred to the National Geriatric Hospital to continue treatment. This hospital transfer was necessary because People's Artist Tran Hieu had to take many drugs for a long time, causing kidney function to be affected and become weakened.

Although still weak, the fire of passion for singing in the elderly artist has never been extinguished. Ms. Minh Nga recounted a touching detail: on October 1, on the occasion of the International Day of the Elderly, People's Artist Tran Hieu tried to stand up, participate in singing with everyone and interact with patients at the hospital. However, due to his health not fully recovered, he could only sing a few verses in the song My Mother because he could not stand for long and his memory was also worse than before.

Currently, his health condition has made many positive progress. Ms. Minh Nga said that he has recovered much better and can eat rice. She expressed hope that he would be discharged from the hospital soon. To ensure he received the best care, the artist's nephew hired a special caregiver to be on duty at the hospital. Ms. Minh Nga still visits her husband once every day.

During his days in the hospital, People's Artist Tran Hieu received attention and visits from many close colleagues and students. People's Artist Tan Minh called to ask about his health. In particular, People's Artist Quoc Hung, a close student, personally went to the hospital to visit him. Ms. Minh Nga recounted that Quoc Hung blamed her for not reporting the news earlier. Teachers and colleagues showed sincere affection and enthusiasm: "Hung was very enthusiastic, the couple went to the hospital, took care of and changed clothes for Mr. Hieu with their own hands," Ms. Nga emotionally shared.

For nearly two years, People's Artist Tran Hieu and his wife have moved to Hanoi to live, staying at an acquaintance's house on Vong Thi Street. Ms. Minh Nga has become a solid support and a dedicated caregiver for her husband. She was always by his side, taking him to regular check-ups, reminding him to take adequate medication. People's Artist Tran Hieu's health was already weakened after a rib fracture accident 5 years ago, causing him to undergo long-term treatment and often go in and out of the hospital since then.

In moments of weakness, the artist whispered to his wife: "Don't leave me". In response, Ms. Minh Nga affirmed her faithful and iron heart: "I tell you to rest assured, I am 72 years old and a kind child, so I will always be with you...". His wife's affection and care are a great spiritual medicine to help him overcome his illness.

People's Artist Tran Hieu was born in 1936 in Hanoi. He graduated from the Vocal Department, Vietnam School of Music (now the Vietnam National Academy of Music) in 1954 and then worked at the Central Music and Dance Theater. He practiced for 3 years at the Sofia Conservatory, Bulgaria. From 1986 to 1991, he was the singer of the Youth Theater.
