A turbulent private life, once in poverty

Before marrying Ai Van, People's Artist Tran Binh once had a wife. After divorcing his first wife, he fell into a difficult situation, had to sell his car to earn money. He confided:

"Before divorcing Hong - my first wife, I was very rich, and even had a 125cc pig car (Japanese car, similar to Harley Davidson).

Hanoi at that time only had 2 cars, which belonged to me and Mr. Bien on Hai Ba Trung street. After the divorce, I no longer have a car, nothing but the house 41 Hang Gai, which I still have a household registration book with" - Thanh Nien source.

People's Artist Tran Binh has known Ai Van since 1971, when he participated in making short plays for Television Station. After that, Ai Van went to the South to join the Bong Sen dance troupe cum radio announcer.

In 1976, Ai Van graduated from Hanoi Conservatory of Music and after graduating, worked at the Vietnam Light Music Theater in 1979, where People's Artist Tran Binh worked. The two got married in 1982 and have a child together.

After getting married, People's Artist Tran Binh went backstage to support his wife's career. Regarding the marriage with Ai Van, People's Artist Tran Binh claimed to be "Van married me rather than marrying Van".
