If you regularly follow social media, many people will know the account owner Nom Nom and her wheelchair as a companion. According to the owner herself, she unfortunately had a traffic accident at the age of 17, leading to her losing the ability to walk on her own.
At first, when she learned that she would be confined to a wheelchair forever, Nom Nom was a bit scared and self-conscious. It was even more heartbreaking when Nom Nom shared that her childhood was not very happy. When she was at the age of pursuing her dreams and struggling to make a living, an accident occurred that limited her ability to work. However, thanks to her will to overcome and extraordinary determination, Nom Nom's life has gradually become more stable. Although her life is confined to a wheelchair, her fans all see her as an inspiration, helping them to be more confident in themselves.
Nom Nom has a long scar on her right leg, a burn from a fire at home. This defect made her feel self-conscious for a long time, to the point that she wore long pants wherever she went, and chose to wear long socks when wearing a skirt to cover the scar on her body. But with her legs unable to walk after an unexpected traffic accident, Nhu couldn't hide them anywhere! "I also had a dream of becoming a tour guide, I liked to travel, liked to interact with many people, but everything stopped," she recalled her dream at the age of 18.
Nom Nom's parents were not happy, since she was little she was sent to live with her maternal family. The family situation has trained the girl to be independent, strong, even somewhat "stubborn" if only looking at her appearance. When she had to be hospitalized due to a serious traffic accident, her elderly grandparents could not take care of Nhu Nhieu. During those days she had to do everything she could, Nom Nom could not bother her grandparents.
At first, she still naively ate and did physical therapy in hopes of recovering soon. However, when the doctor diagnosed a recovery rate of only 1%, Nhu understood that the chance was too slim. "If I can't walk, I'll roll. People around me can only encourage and help me in some way, but I myself am the greatest motivation. If I don't live for myself, no one can live for me," Nhu determined.
She shared about the first time she was conscious after a serious traffic collision that she felt happy to be still here and enjoy the world. "I remember the first time I sat up in a wheelchair since the collision, I felt so happy. I controlled the wheelchair to "roll" out to the outside world," Nhu emotionally recalled.
By the end of 2019, the little girl from the end of the country took a risk and flew to the capital Hanoi with the determination to change her fate: "I have to be better, to show everyone that I am disabled but not useless". With no friends or relatives, her luggage was just an empty bag with the address: The Center for Will to Live - a place where there are no barriers for people with disabilities to help her have equal opportunities in the labor market.
There, she learned information technology skills and graphic design. Normally, people with disabilities only study for six months, but at that time, the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, and it took Nhu nearly a year to complete the course. After graduating from the course, Nhu started working as a 2D animation designer in her field of study. However, the job was unstable, and after a while, Nhu quit her job to look for a new, better job.
Luckily, her application was approved, and a foreign company based in Vietnam specializing in providing graphic services and solutions agreed to hire her as a photo and graphic editor. She was paid a salary of about 7-10 million VND/month, enough to cover her living expenses in Hanoi, from paying for a room and buying essential items for herself.
In Hanoi, Nhu lives alone and does everything herself. On a wheelchair with a trailer, she travels about 7km from home to the company to work every day. The distance she travels to work is quite far but in return, it is a lot of joy. Many people have recognized "optimistic Nom Nom" on TikTok when they suddenly saw her stopping at a red light at an intersection. They approached her to ask, chat and send her sincere words of encouragement.
As if realizing that she was always cared for, she immediately became happier and could never forget the happy moment when she put on her new colorful shoes even though she was still in the hospital at that time. There, people complimented Nhu on her beautiful new shoes, as if they had forgotten that her feet could not walk! "Since I started wearing beautiful clothes and new shoes, everyone who saw me exclaimed: "Oh, what a beautiful outfit, what a beautiful pair of shoes."
I realized that what was on my body was the focus of attention at first, not my defective legs anymore. When I wore nice clothes and nice shoes, I felt very confident. They were like "armor" that helped me confidently go out on the street to meet and communicate with people," she confided.
Like posting her photos in fashion groups on social networks. Immediately, the unique and individual fashion sense of the girl in the wheelchair attracted the eyes of the people around her. "Sister, you are so beautiful. I like your optimism", "Keep it up, sister, sending you a thousand hugs", "You have a beautiful smile"...
The rain of comments on social networks is like a "magic pill" to soothe the shortcomings of fate. Nhu finds it more interesting to share photos and post videos on social networks about the daily life of a girl "driving a wheelchair" to work, always smiling happily, wearing beautiful clothes and dresses to go out and meet friends.
