Southern Golden Music, from its inception until 1975 with a period of over 20 years, has hundreds of famous musicians appeared and composed tens of thousands of golden songs that were well received by the public. However, Hoai Linh is always a name that always has a special place in the golden music genre, he is mentioned by music lovers both past and now with admiration and a lot of love.

Musician Hoai Linh's real name is Le Văи Linh, born in 1920 (but some other sources say 1925 or 1933, currently there are no documents to confirm his birth year), he was born in Bich La village, Trieu Dong commune, Trieu Phong district, In addition to his stage name Hoai Linh, he also has three other stage names: Nguyen Le, Ha Vi Duong and Luc Binh Le.

Before 1975, musician Hoai Linh participated in 1 art troupe under the management of musician Nguyen Van Dong.

Hoai Linh began composing in the early 1950s, his compositions at this time were mostly influenced by songs of the earlier period, tinged with romance.

In the early 1960s, Hoai Linh began to switch to Golden music, he quickly became famous for the song "Purple Thiep Hong" (co-written with musician Minh Mei). This song was well received by the public at that time and until now it is still an extremely popular song and performed by many singers. Before 1975, Purple Thiep Hong was performed through the duo Che Linh and Thanh Tuyen, then Giao Linh and Tuan Vu, after 1975 the song was loved through the voices of the duo Cam Ly and Quoc Dai.

In addition to composing, Hoai Linh is also responsible for disseminating lyrics for pre-booked songs such as: Farewell to Period, Sail Transfer, Sunset Train, Urban Afternoon, It and Me, .... of many other musicians.

Musician Hoai Linh is a person with a simple lifestyle, although he is a famous musician, his age and career are in the form of seniors in the music industry, but the image of a letter musician who can write beautiful words, a young man who is used to wearing shirts outside his pants, When composing, he will hug the piano and notebook that has long been imprinted in the memory of those who know Hoai Linh.

As a talented, famous and beloved musician, Hoai Linh's private life has always been secretive. The special thing about this musician is that his inspiration for composing did not start from fleeting love affairs, no servant silhouette appeared, all there was only one "muse" of his life, which was his wife. From his love story, he transformed and built different love stories in poetry.

According to the musician's family, the "muse" in the songs: The Purple House, The Little Girl in the Old Days, The Bridge of Tribute, The Two Angry Children, ... Both his wives, the songs all have complete endings with a single "muse".

Hoai Linh's music was loved and well received by the public, selling very well, so at that time, musician Hoai Linh was one of the few musicians who had a financially comfortable life only through composing. In 1968, musician Van Giang, just came to Saigon from Hue. He was invited by musician Hoai Linh to eat housewarming in a massive three-storey house, at which point he suddenly realized why musicians in Nam followed each other to compose Golden music.

After 1975, musician Hoai Linh devoted himself to writing sacred music, serving the church. People in the new government knew that he was a famous musician, so they invited him to take charge of the arts section in Ward 25 of District 3 of Saigon. Because of his advanced age, musician Hoai Linh was only in charge for a while and then assigned his son Tuan Le to practice music for the art department.

In 1995, Hoai Linh was left empty-handed due to paralysis due to a cerebrovascular accident, every part of his body was paralyzed except for his fingertips and he still seemed to be aware of everything around him. Tam Phan came to visit him, the wife of musician Hoai Linh asked Tam Phan to take his hand, then she said to her husband: "Uncle Tam Phan came to visit him, if you recognize him, click a finger." Tam Phan later recounted that the musician pressed lightly on his palm as he was still aware of now.

On April 30, 1995, the talented musician passed away forever. Leaving immense sorrow for those who loved him and his works. The late musician's songs are still loved by many audiences today and perhaps it will forever endure with time.
