Ngu Cung: The "strange" band of the Vietnamese Rock village, suddenly dropped Do Hoang Hiep's name

Ngu Cung is considered a "strange wind" of the Vietnamese music industry. The difference, respectability, and respect of Ngu Cung is that they courageously choose and persevere in pursuing the theme of folk culture as well as bringing into their music the sound of national music.

Ngu Cung (often abbreviated as 5C, also known as Pentatonic) is a Vietnamese rock band founded in Hanoi in 2007. After winning a music talent contest Rock Your Passion, Ngu Cung has become a phenomenon of the Vietnamese music industry with rock music mixed with Northwest ethnic music influences.

The song is considered the most famous of the band, "Wife Steal" was in the top 15 songs selected by the Artistic Council of Vietnamese Song to compete in the final night of the 2008 contest and helped the band won the Impressive Musician and Effective Arrangement Musician awards in December.

"Wife Steal" was written by leader Tran Thang and his grandfather, musician Tran Tuan Long. Other compositions that make up Ngu Cung's brand, using Mr. Tran Tuan Long's lyrics, include: "White Snow & Red Rhododendron", "Stone Plateau", "Spirit of Love", "Man Le 1979" , "Kiss on top of fansipan", "Fairy shower", "Fairy shower".

In May 2009, the band released their debut studio album titled 365000 in collaboration with Honda Vietnam. In 2014, the group continued to release their second studio album titled Stone Plateau, accompanied by a live show promoting the album held at Giang Vo Exhibition Center, Hanoi.

Throughout his artistic career, Ngu Cung has performed on many big stages such as the Rock Storm music festival, V-Rock, or television shows such as Vietnamese Songs, Sao Mai Rendezvous and Proud Melody. . In 2017, to celebrate the group's 10th birthday, Ngu Cung also attended live shows such as the final night of the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival competition. In 2022, the band participates in a series of performances called "Ride2Rock - Rock hit 2022" held in many cities, in addition to a live show celebrating 15 years of operation.

In May 2024, Ngu Cung's fanpage with green ticks made an announcement about the band's current lineup along with sharing: "New look, new composition, new MV and new album...". Accordingly, Ngu Cung will operate with 5 members: Tran Thang (guitarist, composer), Hoang Duc (drums), Hong Phi (lead vocalist), Hoang Xuan Bach (bassist) and Hoang Xuan Bac (guitarist). Among them, Hoang Xuan Bach and Hoang Xuan Bac are twin brothers who are only 18 years old this year.

After being shared, the above line-up attracted attention because it did not include the name Do Hoang Hiep, who is widely known to the public as the main vocalist of the band.

In response to fans' questions and answers to the press, the leader - main composer of Ngu Cung, guitarist Tran Thang, said that Do Hoang Hiep has asked to leave the band since November 2023. After many years of togetherness, this decision of the male singer left a void in the hearts of the band members. Do Hoang Hiep is not the composer of Ngu Cung but has performed the band's songs for many years. That's why Ngu Cung did not announce this information for a long time, hoping that his teammate would have more space and time to consider the decision to leave.

However, when the incident dragged on for too long, Ngu Cung could no longer wait because there were still many projects that had to continue. The band decided to recruit new members and undergo a thorough professional examination before making an official line-up announcement on the fanpage.

When asked how Do Hoang Hiep's absence affects Ngu Cung, leader Tran Thang said: "Hoang Hiep's absence marks a change and transformation of Ngu Cung to a new version. does not affect the quality of the band's composition or music."

It is known that Hong Phi - the new vocalist of Ngu Cung was born in 1994, once attracted attention at The Voice 2017 because of his powerful, inspiring voice, especially his tenor voice. Before participating in the program The Voice of Vietnam, Hong Phi was a soldier of the Vietnam People's Armed Forces, working at the Troupe of Military Region 1.

Hoang Hiep's departure from Ngu Cung was not confirmed by him. It was not until the group made an announcement that fans learned the news. This raises many suspicions that there is conflict within the Five Palaces, leading to this incident.

Hoang Hiep also expressed his opinion, continuing to emphasize that his departure from the group was very surprising, without even knowing the reason why he was "unnamed": "I don't want to mention this story. because everything that happened to me was so unexpected that I tried to contact the brothers in the band because I didn't understand the cause or reason.

Maybe before that I texted the band that I wanted to take a break from activities for a while to upgrade myself and find a better musical direction. Perhaps you have misunderstood my meaning. Leading to this situation, surely everyone who knows the band Ngu Cung and Do Hoang Hiep will be very sad.

For me, maybe it was God's will. I feel like if the band doesn't need me anymore, I have to accept it, at least for the time being. In the future, if the brothers in the band still have good relationships, we will continue..."
