MrBeast "dethrones" Ronaldo, becomes YouTube boss with "huge" view empire
Behind the "YouTube king" MrBeast is a powerful production team, turning crazy ideas into million-view videos, operating like a mysterious Hollywood machine that makes everyone dizzy.
MrBeast, real name Jimmy Donaldson , is currently the king of YouTube with over 400 million followers on his main channel. Not only is he the world's number 1 YouTuber, he has also built a business empire that brought in $473 million in revenue last year and owns his own reality show on Amazon Prime Video.
What makes MrBeast different is his ability to turn seemingly impossible ideas into "masterpieces" that attract hundreds of millions of views: from burying himself alive, organizing a survival challenge for hundreds of days, to even the more daring - driving an entire train down a hole to conduct an experiment. Behind these products that take the internet by storm is a massive operating machine, both Hollywood-like and the speed and chaos of the digital age.
The heart of the MrBeast "machine" lies in the content creation team - where dozens of people are dedicated to... thinking of ideas. For them, every script starts with a title and thumbnail image. This team researches trends, popular keywords, and hot topics on YouTube to continuously add to the "idea database".
One former employee once described it as a âcontent labâ: the more you think, the more likely you are to come up with a âhit.â Hundreds of scripts are written every month, but only a select few make it to MrBeast. And if he says âcringe,â the entire project is canceled.
The process is reminiscent of Hollywood: writers and directors must constantly pitch their ideas to producers to get the green light. If they pass the idea round, the project will be sent to the production team for review of costs and feasibility. There are bold plans that are so... impossible, like the project to send MrBeast into space, that have been forced to "shelve". However, the spirit of the team is "never give up just because of a rejection".
Once an idea is approved, an entire production team gets involved: setting up the scene, finding actors, negotiating with partners, arranging progress... A large video can mobilize up to dozens of producers at the same time.
Most of the videos were shot in his hometown of Greenville, North Carolina, where MrBeast built a massive studio system with a full crew. Initially, the support team was mostly âfriends of friends,â but later became a professional âtask force.â
A project can use hundreds of cameras, from DSLRs to GoPros, positioned at multiple angles to ensure no moment is missed. With challenges lasting months, the amount of data collected is huge, forcing the editing team to shoot and edit in parallel.
Despite the complex process, MrBeast maintains his own philosophy: "This is not Hollywood, and I don't want to be Hollywood." He rejects the traditional cumbersome production style, instead adopting a flexible, even chaotic, but effective style.
A 100-day challenge means thousands of hours of continuous filming. Post-production is therefore vital. Each video typically has around eight editors involved: a rough cutter, a highlight selector, and a main editor who assembles the final version.
MrBeast is known for being meticulous about keeping his audience engaged. He uses the "retention editing" tactic - cutting and editing to optimize the viewer's attention. Every second of the video is tracked using YouTube Analytics data to detect where viewers are likely to leave.
Once the final version is complete, the video is further localized in multiple languages, the cover art is optimized, and multiple versions are tested to find the most effective option. The content is also shortened for posting on TikTok, YouTube Shorts, or edited for YouTube Kids.
MrBeast usually releases only 1â2 long videos per month, but each one has a huge impact. In addition to his main channel, he also runs multiple side channels about gaming, charity, and vertical short videos.
âThere are a lot of creators out there who want to be MrBeast, but the truth is thereâs only one person who can do it,â says a former employee. âBecause he has the systems, the resources, and the vision that no one else can copy.â
