Minh Hai: Pu's father played the role of Uncle Ho for 15 years, used to eat shrimp noodles every day, spending 300k/month

Minh Hai has been acting for more than 20 years but has had 15 years playing the role of Uncle Ho in dozens of works. Recently, he continued to attract attention with the role of Pu's father in "Walking in the Brilliant Sky".

Artist Minh Hai was born in 1979 in Nghe An. After finishing high school, he registered for the exam at Hanoi University of Theater and Cinema to the surprise of his friends. Because, in the years of sitting in school, he has never participated in art or drama.

Few people know that the reason why Minh Hai enrolled in theater school to pursue an acting career is very simple. It was from the moment he saw Artist Tran Thach acting in films, acting on stage, he began to like it and wanted himself to be the same.

After his efforts to learn, Minh Hai also passed the exam to enter the acting department of Hanoi University of Theater and Cinema. As a provincial student, when he went to school in the city, he faced many difficulties. "Every month, my parents give me 300,000 VND for living. Back then, students didn't work part-time like they do now," the male artist shared.

Eating shrimp noodles for a long time for Minh Hai is a common thing now. Fortunately, he was supported by friends to overcome difficulties until the day his family sent money. The student period was lacking, but for the 7x artist, it was the most beautiful time and the most memories.

After graduating from university, Minh Hai chose to work at the Vietnam Drama Theater because he heard people praise the expertise of the artists here, so he liked it very much. However, the first time here was also a "terrifying" period for him because he did not have a role for 11 years, did not act.

Minh Hai was even crossed out from the list of actors by People's Artist Doan Chau because he looked very thin, sick... because they don't know which role to put in. It wasn't until there was a play by Artist Do Ky, an actor who often acted was retired, so he was given the opportunity to act.

In 2009, when Minh Hai joined the production crew of VTV's theater program, he was recommended to play the role of Uncle Ho because he saw that his appearance was a great leader of the country. Since then, it has opened a 15-year journey associated with this role.

Every time he starts to transform into President Ho Chi Minh, even though it is an old work, for Minh Hai it is always a completely new feeling. To be able to complete the role, he not only had to try to learn but also make efforts to follow Uncle.

"The happiest thing about playing the role of Uncle Ho is that every time the play ends, there are a lot of spectators lingering to wait for their turn to "take pictures with Uncle", the male artist confided. Sometimes he stood up to the point of faltering, tired of his knees, but he still felt very happy in his heart. That is also the motivation for the 7x artist to try harder day by day.

It is a fact, although the performance of President Ho Chi Minh is very charming, very "sweet" seems to be "framed", but few people know that Minh Hai has also won a lot of medals from professional theater festivals with other very diverse roles.

Recently, Minh Hai is more known and loved by the audience with the role of Xuon - Pu's father - the movie "Walking in the Brilliant Sky" by director Do Thanh Son. Not long after airing, the work has reached a huge number of views (1 billion views) on platforms.

Minh Hai's role of Xuon appears quite a lot in the first part of the film, working as a pharmacist but addicted to alcohol, debt and appearance. He is also the one who "five times seven times" wants to marry Pu to Chai to write off debts. In some episodes, he also blocked his daughter's way down the street to study, which angered the audience.

Sharing with reporter Dan Tri about the opportunity to come to "Walking in the Brilliant Sky", Minh Hai said that at the end of April 2024, the film crew contacted him to invite him to the project and accepted immediately. This is also the most "long-term" TV project that the male artist has participated in.

Minh Hai added that the film crew had to stay in Nguyen Binh district (Cao Bang) for a long time and had time to be close and chat with the people here. But during that time, he had to try 200 percent, arranging his time so that the work in Hanoi did not overlap.

"At that time, I was very tired because I was rehearsing White Night and Black Panther Squad at the Vietnam Drama Theater. After practicing, I "circumvented" for 2-3 days to go to Cao Bang to film, then return to Hanoi to practice. Even more difficult is that there is not always a car to go to Nguyen Binh.

There are only a few shuttle buses a day that follow a fixed time, so I decided to make a movie because of my passion. I was willing to give up all my money to move between the two places in time. After rehearsing at the Theater, I booked a 3 million ride to Cao Bang and vice versa. There are days when filming is finished, at 1 a.m. I get on the car and run back to Hanoi to rehearse with my brothers at 9 a.m.," said the 7x artist.

When playing the role of Xuon in "Walking in the Brilliant Sky", Minh Hai grew a beard and hair to match the character without makeup. The male artist revealed that after the film screened the first episodes, going out on the street with his daughter, the audience immediately recognized him and constantly asked him. Many people are also called "Pu's father", "Mr. Xuon"...

Talking about young faces in the film such as: Long Vu, Thu Ha Ceri... Minh Hai said: "Vu is a child of the family, so he acts very charmingly, and Thu Ha tries very hard and learns hard. In some segments, I also told Ha to act better."

Artist Minh Hai revealed that after his roles in movies and theaters, he was peaceful and happy to have a family that always supported his artistic path.
