Mark Lee (NCT): The journey from SM Rookies to NCT "ace"

Mark Lee (August 2, 1999), also known as Lee Min Hyung in Toronto, Canada. He is a member of South Korean b.oy band NCT and permanent sub-units NCT 127 and NCT Dream, as well as South Korean supergroup SuperM.

Mark attracted the attention of the public thanks to his unique rapping ability and impressive music style. With a burning passion for art, he spent 10 years diligently training, honing his skills and asserting himself. Even as a trainee, Mark has shown outstanding potential through impressive performances in periodic examinations. Thanks to his talent and relentless efforts, he was selected to participate in the entertainment project of the management company with a cast of famous seniors.

In particular, Mark was born into a family with artistic traditions, he inherited his musical talent from his parents, his father was a vocal expert, and his mother was proficient in many musical instruments. It was because of the artistic environment from a young age that aroused in Mark a special passion and talent for music. After living in Toronto for a while, Mark moved with his family to Vancouver, Canada, where he honed his English fluency, laying a solid foundation for future career development.

After learning that SM Entertainment was holding an audition in Canada, Mark was eager to participate but because of the school schedule, he gave up. However, fortunately, his class schedule suddenly changed, giving Mark and his brother the opportunity to come to the exam.

At the qualifying round, Mark shone brightly with his outstanding musical talent, attracted the attention of the judges, and enrolled in the ranks of SM Entertainment trainees in 2012. After that, his father returned to Korea and brought his family to live here.

Initially, Mark had many difficulties in communication due to his unfamiliarity with Korean culture. However, with great effort and determination, he gradually adapted and integrated into the new environment. Besides diligently honing his musical skills at SM, Mark has always devoted his time to education. He studied at Eonju Middle School and later transferred to Seoul High School for the Performing Arts.

After joining SM Entertainment, Mark Lee was selected for SM Rookies, a project established in 2013 to train and introduce talented young trainees to the public. SM Rookies is a launching pad for many famous K-Pop stars such as Irene, Wendy or Jaehyun.

However, initially, Mark Lee met with mixed opinions about his appearance that did not suit the audience's tastes. It wasn't until participating in EXO 90:2014 and Disney Channel's The Mickey Mouse Club that Mark's musical talent was clearly revealed. Besides, his dynamic and enthusiastic personality also helps him attract the love of fans.

Along with participating in entertainment activities, Mark Lee still spends time honing his dance and vocal skills. According to other trainees, he is sociable and often socializes with people around him.

2016 marked an important turning point in Mark Lee's career when he debuted in the b.oy band NCT. Thanks to his outstanding talent, Mark quickly became an "ace" in the NCT system, attracting a large fan base and affirming his position in the Korean music industry.

Currently, Mark is the only active member of all NCT's subgroups (except WayV) and the youngest brother of SuperM. This shows that Mark's talent and hard work are highly appreciated by SM Entertainment and entrusted with many important responsibilities.

It is not natural for Mark to be present in almost all NCT units, because of his outstanding talent, he is loved by president Lee so Man. He wasn't even afraid to say on one show, "Love Mark so much!"

Despite being only 25 years old, Mark has already established himself as one of the best rappers in SM Entertainment. Virtuoso rapping skills, unique flow and the ability to transform diverse music genres have helped Mark conquer the hearts of fans and receive admiration from many veteran artists in the industry such as Parc Jae Jung (Kpop Star), Joy (Red Velvet), vice president of Capitol Records, Yoon Jong Shin, and even SM Entertainment president Lee so Man publicly praised Mark's talent on a TV show.

Besides rapping skills, Mark also possesses excellent songwriting and lyric writing abilities. Up to now, Mark is the NCT member who owns the most songs registered at the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA) with 46 songs, far exceeding other members. This shows Mark's abundant musical creativity and dedication to the arts.

It is known that SM Entertainment is very strict with products composed by the artist himself, but often prioritizes choosing songs written by Mark. Typically, NCT U, NCT 127 or SuperM all have the musical imprint of the singer born in 1999.

With his talent, hard work, and relentless efforts, Mark is sure to achieve more success and become one of the best artists in the Korean music industry.
