Police are searching for a man wearing a striped shirt who stole 128 million VND that a customer had left behind at an MB Bank ATM in the North Cam Ranh branch. The incident was recorded by security cameras, and authorities are urging the man to turn himself in to avoid criminal prosecution.
This unusual incident occurred on the evening of April 1st at an ATM belonging to the Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MB) – Nam Khanh Hoa Branch, Nguyen Chi Thanh Street, My Ca residential area, Bac Cam Ranh ward, Khanh Hoa province.
At approximately 6:15 PM, a local resident arrived at this ATM to deposit 128 million VND into his account. However, due to a technical issue or a rejected transaction, the ATM system did not accept the money and instead dispensed the entire stack of cash into the machine's slot.
In a moment of inattention and carelessness, the man thought the transaction was complete and nonchalantly left the scene without checking the cash drawer. The large sum of money was left exposed in a public space, creating an opportunity for criminals to harbor malicious intentions.
Immediately after the man left, another individual approached the ATM to make a transaction. Instead of notifying the bank or authorities upon discovering the large sum of money left behind, this person quickly collected the entire 128 million VND and left.
According to footage extracted from security cameras at the scene, the suspect is a man riding a motorcycle and wearing a striped shirt. The images show him quickly taking the money and leaving the ATM area in a hurry. Currently, the video from the scene camera has been seized by the police to aid in identification and investigation.
On April 19th, the head of the Bac Cam Ranh Ward Police Station stated that the unit is urgently verifying the identity and whereabouts of the man in question. To ensure the rights of the victim and uphold the rule of law, the authorities have issued urgent notices:
The person involved is requested to proactively contact the Bac Cam Ranh Ward Police to surrender the money and cooperate in resolving the matter. Voluntary return of the money may be considered an important mitigating circumstance.
We appeal to the public for information: Anyone with information about a person wearing a striped shirt and riding a motorcycle who appeared in the ATM area during the above time frame, please report it to the nearest office.
The police have issued a serious warning to the public: Finding lost property but failing to return it or report it to the authorities constitutes "illegal possession of property".
According to the current Penal Code, if the amount of money seized is 10 million VND or more, the perpetrator may be prosecuted. With a large amount like 128 million VND, the punishment could include a heavy fine or imprisonment for a fixed term.
This is a costly lesson for both citizens regarding the management of personal assets at public transaction points, and for those intending to seize property that does not belong to them. Modern surveillance technology is so advanced that every trace is recorded; evading the law is only a matter of time.
