Kenshi Yonezu, whose real name is Hachi, is a Japanese musician, singer and music producer. Kenshi Yonezu was born in 1991 in Tokushima and began his musical career by releasing independent music on the internet in 2009.
When mentioning Kenshi Yonezu, people often immediately think of a tall singer-songwriter with earrings and messy hair falling down his face, hiding his eyes filled with sadness.
He is the owner of a series of famous hits in the land of the rising sun. Unlike other idols who are famous for their trendy style, Yonezu has his own style, making music lovers admire his songs with strange and catchy melodies, concise lyrics with layers of meaning. In addition to being a famous singer-songwriter, he is also a music producer and illustrator.
Kenshi was born on March 10, 1991 in rural Tokushima, Japan. His family was poor at the time. As a chil.d, Yonezu always found it difficult to communicate with others, especially his father. At that time, Yonezu thought that only his mother could understand him.
His musical career began in 2006, during his second year of junior high school, when he and his friend Hiroshi Nakajima formed a band to play for school cultural festivals. In the band, he was the singer, songwriter, and sometimes played guitar, while Hiroshi Nakajima was the main guitarist.
After graduating from junior high school, Yonezu moved to Osaka and began attending art school. While a student there, he began uploading songs sung by Hatsune Miku using the Vocaloid software. His 2009 release, ""Musunde Hiraite Rasetsu to Mukuro"" (çµã³ãéã¤ãç¾ Ã49;ã'608;) was his first song to receive over 1 million views on the site. Although he uploaded over 30 musical works sung by himself, Yonezu deleted them as his Vocaloid songs became more popular. Yonezu later changed the name of his blog to Denshi-chÅ Hachibangai (å¸å «), and it was one of five blogs awarded the Diamond Awar.d at the 2009 WebMoney Awards.
From April 2008 to March 2009, Kenshi Yonezu posted songs on Nico Nico Douga under the name Hachi and quickly gained attention in the Vocaloid world. 3 years later in 2012, he started his singing career under the stage name Kenshi Yonezu and began releasing many hit songs.
Bored with working alone, he wanted to connect, to do something for others, not just continue to compose according to his own will. In 2012, Yonezu Kenshi debuted with the album "Diorama" performed in his warm, sincere voice. When he decided to join Universal Sigma, he felt nervous about handing over the work he had previously done to others, but then realized that there was not much difference between "doing everything by himself" and "collaborating with others". It seemed that everyone worked together very well, everything went smoothly.
Not stopping there, in 2017, the song Uchiage Hanabi sung by DAOKO and Yonezu Kenshi not only created a perfect ending for the movie "Fireworks, should you watch from below or from the side" but also made waves in the fan community. Yonezu admitted that he was a fan of DAOKO, and "was a bit jealous" because "her voice was soft and clear, completely opposite to my deep voice." Not long after, people saw actor Suda Masaki contribute his voice to the new song Haiiro to Ao. The two met through the movie "Nanimono" (2016) when Suda acted in the movie and Yonezu wrote the theme song. Yonezu commented that Suda had a good voice, "If it was him, he would definitely create something special." The song Machigai sagashi in Suda's album LOVE was also composed by Yonezu. The two of them often take pictures together or go on tours together, very close.
Yonezu is gradually affirming his name not only with domestic audiences but also with the world. Yonezu Kenshi's Arena tour is not only held in Japan but also his first overseas tour with the final two destinations being Shanghai and Taiwan. Coming up, "YONEZU KENSHI TOUR 2020 / HYPE" .
Although only 33 years old, singer-songwriter Yonezu Kenshi has achieved remarkable results. Typically, the song Lemon has continuously topped the Japan HO.T 100 chart for 7 weeks and was selected as "Song of the Year" by Billboard Japan. In addition, Eine Kleine contributed to the success of Tokyo Metro's advertising campaign in 2014, LOSER is associated with Honda's "JADE" brand. Last year, Paprika was chosen by NHK as the promotional song for the 2020 Olympic Games and became the theme song of the program "Minna no uta" which is very popular with children. Most recently, in September 2019, the MV Uma to Shika with the participation of 120 dancers reached 10 million views in less than a week of its release, ranking number one on the Japan HO.T 100.
"As I embarked on a professional music career and met many people, my thinking gradually changed," Yonezu shared. When asked, "Do you want to increase your revenue?" he slowly replied, "It's similar to the question of whether I want to be known by many people. Deep down, I always want to create something beautiful that can touch people's hearts, so if that's called 'revenue', then I want to achieve that."
