The 96th Miss America final night just ended at the Dr. Phillips in Orlando, Florida with the victory belonging to the beautiful Madison Marsh - representative from the state of Colorado.
The new beauty queen received a scholarship worth 50,000 USD and many other gifts.
Beauty Ellie Breaux of Texas won 1st runner-up. The remaining positions in the top 5 belonged to Cydney Bridges (Indiana), Mallory Hudson (Kentucky) and Caroline Parente (Rhode Island).
In the final, instead of the traditional Q&A, the organizers decided to innovate with a discussion of hot topics. Accordingly, Madison Marsh shares about her late mother's battle with pancreatic cancer. In the talent round, because she was not good at singing or dancing, she chose to perform stand-up comedy, talking about getting her pilot's license at the age of 16.
Marsh's victory was not surprising because she is considered a "talking machine" and also possesses remarkable academic achievements. The beauty is a second lieutenant in the US Air Force and is pursuing a master's degree in public policy at Harvard Kennedy School.
In addition, Marsh is the founder of the Whitney Marsh Foundation - which raises money for research against pancreatic cancer. The foundation is named after her mother, who passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2018.
In the post-coronation interview, Madison shared: "You can achieve anything. The sky is not the limit and the only person stopping you is you."
Following that, Miss America added that if she can "come from a small town, not part of the contestants" and then enter this pageant world, then anyone can.
Immediately after the information was posted, the US Air Force also celebrated Madison Marsh's victory: "Congratulations to our pilot - Second Lieutenant Madison Marsh aka Miss Colorado - on being crowned Miss America 2024. Marsh is the first active duty soldier to ever win this title."
Miss America was first held in 1921, with the original fixed location being Atlantic City, New Jersey. The contest has the principle of looking for beauties with good education, more intellectual than seductive beauty. Miss America also abandoned the swimsuit competition in 2019 to support the #MeToo movement.
Due to different selection criteria, Miss America does not attract the audience and media like Miss USA - the competition to find a representative to attend Miss Universe.
Miss USA aims for attractive physical beauty while Miss America is looking for winners to give them the opportunity to study at any prestigious university in the US.
Miss America 2023 is Grace Stanke. She spent her year in office building an awareness program about nuclear and carbon-free energy sources.
Unlike other beauty contests, the new Miss America does not place much emphasis on international competition.
In recent years, the reputation of both Miss America and Miss USA contests has declined and faced many scandals.
Even recently, there was information that Miss USA will not be held this year. Specifically, beautiful Dani Walker (representing Montana at Miss USA 2018 and currently a famous YouTuber in the beauty industry) posted a video with the title "Will Miss USA 2024 happen?" (Will Miss USA 2024 take place?), attracting the audience's attention.
Dani Walker expressed concern that up to this point, no state in the US has organized a state competition, different from previous practice.
She also said that some state competitions planned to be held in 2023 have been postponed. Candidates taking the exam in some states were not informed until when the exam was postponed.
