Decoding 'Idol' Cong Thi Tai No: mistakenly took a container from the US, got married at the Zoo

Over the past few days, social media has been buzzing about "idol crossing the sea" in a container from the US to Vietnam by waterway without money or passport.

Although they have been "settled down" in Vietnam for 4 years, the love story of Cong Thi Tai No and Khanh Nau is still a hot story in the zoo world across the country. Cong Thi Tai No is a female raccoon with American nationality. Four years ago in the fall, specifically on September 30, 2020, a female raccoon was discovered in a -18 degree Celsius refrigerated container imported from the US after 35 days at sea. This event caused a stir at the parent company specializing in import and export in Tan Phu district and the Animal Enterprise of Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens.

According to this import-export company, after opening the seal of a frozen pork container imported directly from the US, many boxes of meat were discovered to have been bitten, and there was also animal feces. In particular, a dark shadow appeared and disappeared inside the container.

After receiving a request for support, Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens took in this "naturalized" Vietnamese raccoon by waterway to take care of. And thanks to that thrilling appearance, the name Cong Thi Tai No was born to commemorate the successful border crossing in a container of the American raccoon.

Many netizens found this story hard to believe, and wondered why a small raccoon could survive in a cold space of -18 degrees Celsius. It turned out that this raccoon was very smart and took shelter in the hot unit of the container's air conditioner. With a warm place to live and a bonus of nearly 200 boxes of meat, this "lucky" raccoon spent 35 days at sea without fear of hunger or cold.

After arriving at her new home at the Zoo, Cong Thi Tai No quickly integrated into the environment there. What's even more special is that after just over 2 months of "going abroad", Tai No fell in love with the single guy "next door" from Da Nang.

Even more interesting, the raccoon community also welcomed a white raccoon named Linh Ngoc Nga. Ngoc Nga and Tai No quickly became close. Khanh Nau - the raccoon named the happiest in the Zoo not only "married" a foreign wife but also a Vietnamese wife named Ngoc Nga. After 4 years, the family of Khanh Nau - Cong Thi Tai No - Ngoc Nga was soon fulfilled, welcoming "a multitude of children and grandchildren" of 22 members.

On November 30, 2024, Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden also celebrated the "4th wedding anniversary" of Cong Thi Tai No. It seems that "Cong Thi Tai No's memoir" is very popular with the online community and attracts many people to visit the American raccoon.

During the celebration, visitors experienced many interesting activities such as taking photos and feeding raccoons. This was an opportunity for everyone to learn about the special journey that brought the raccoon family to the Zoo and their lives here. Mr. Nguyen Trung Khang (born in 2000, residing in District 10) - a visitor to the Zoo, shared that he proactively came to the celebration because he was curious and interested in raccoons. Mr. Trung Khang was especially impressed by the cleverness and agility of the raccoons. He said that the raccoons here are very polite, when receiving food, they will hold it with both hands.

"The story of welcoming Tai No from the container to the Zoo is very touching. I didn't think this raccoon could survive 35 days in the container. I really thank the Zoo for bringing him to his new home and taking care of him" - Mr. Khang shared.

The celebration is not only an opportunity for visitors to explore, but also a thank you to the staff who have created a close and natural living environment for this happy family of raccoons.

However, the lives of animals here may be affected because the Zoo recently had an overdue debt of nearly 800 billion VND.

As of October 31, the tax debt of Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens Company Limited (Thao Cam Vien) was more than 846 billion VND, the overdue amount for forced tax collection was more than 787 billion VND. The unit was leased land by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee with an area of 158,117 m2 for public use under an annual payment regime, for a period of 50 years, more than 163 billion VND per year, and currently has no money to pay.

In addition to business, the Zoo must manage a 160-year-old zoo, taking care of nearly 2,000 animals and more than 2,000 plants, many of which are rare and endangered.

Animals in the zoo must be properly cared for, fed, and treated. During times of epidemics, protecting these animals becomes more difficult and costly.

The Botanical Garden contributes to the "lungs" of the city, is a beautiful green space with many ancient trees, hardly any place in Ho Chi Minh City and the surrounding area has a green space with so many rare plants concentrated like this.
