Joe Lycett, the British comedian, shredded £10,000 of banknotes after issuing an ultimatum asking former player David Beckham to step down from his role as a World Cup ambassador in Qatar, leaving fans in awe.
On Nov. 20, Joe Lycett began tweeting to count down until midnight. At exactly 12 p.m., Lycett posted a video tearing up money on a website to which Lycett had a link.
Lycett later posted the video to his social media account with the caption "a platform for progress," referring to Beckham's earlier remarks in a pre-recorded video sent to Qatar's Supreme Committee's Genenation Amazing festival in Doha. Beckham used the phrase to describe this year's World Cup.

According to the video, around 12 o'clock local time, Lycett quietly approached two stacks of £5 bills, then threw them at a wood chipper. Debris of money flew out from the other side, according to Wales Online.
Earlier, actor Joe Lycett issued an ultimatum to Beckham regarding his role as a World Cup ambassador in Qatar. He insists he will shred the money if the former player does not give up his role as a World Cup ambassador. According to Reuters, Beckham has not publicly responded to the ultimatum.
On November 13, the comedian posted a video on social media in which he directly told Beckham about his deal to promote the World Cup in Qatar.
In the video, Lycett says he would give £10,000 to charities that support gay people in football if Beckham pulls out of that contract. If Beckham fails to do so, he will trim the money and livestream the entire process at noon on November 20 on the BendersLikeBeckham.com website, according to the Independent.
The former England captain has come under fire over controversial issues in the Middle Eastern country. David Beckham is expected to pocket £10 million ($11.9 million) for his role at the World Cup in Qatar. Some reports suggest that figure could be as high as £150m.

However, this move by the comedian has been controversial. Many begged Lycett not to destroy the money as Britain had just entered a recession and was in a cost-of-living crisis.
Some countered that Lycett's ultimatum to Beckham would be an effective protest if he actually shredded that money.
Same-sex relations are banned in Qatar and violators can be punished with up to 3 years in prison. Lycett said he is gay.
Beckham did not respond. In a video posted on Twitter on Nov. 20, Lycett appears to have put a pile of money into a shredder while wearing a rainbow-colored shirt. Lycett then bows to the camera and walks away. The comedian did not respond to a question about whether he actually canceled the money.
Qatar's Supreme Committee recently told CNN that the 2022 World Cup will be an "inclusive and safe tournament," asserting that "everyone is welcome, regardless of race, background, religion, gender, orientation or nationality."
David Beckham and his representatives declined to comment on criticism surrounding his ambassadorial role.
According to multiple reports, David Beckham once publicly supported Jake Daniels, an LGBT player, but he received money from the World Cup to promote the image of this tournament in the host country Qatar, which "hates" homosexuals.
Previously, Beckham received criticism related to his role at the World Cup taking place in Qatar, including the news that the former England player received up to 150 million pounds when he accepted the position of World Cup 2022 ambassador.
The LGBT community is frustrated by David Beckham. The former United star is a "great ally" of the community but has been contracted as an ambassador for the 2022 World Cup, hosted by Qatar, a foul country that is dumb to host basic human rights. Currently, a wave of criticism of David Beckham is growing in England and the former United player has not yet responded.
