Regarding the incident of 6 people who unfortunately capsized while paddling on Phu Quy beach from around 6pm on October 26, by the morning of October 27, a female tourist was found. Recalling the 12 hours drifting at sea, she is still haunted.
Regarding the incident of 6 tourists who capsized and went missing on Phu Quy Island, by 7am on October 27, authorities had found and successfully rescued 1 female tourist, bringing the total number of people found to 5. Currently, 1 tourist is still missing.
According to Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper, the lucky female tourist rescued by fishermen is Nguyen Ngoc Kim Th. (born in 2005, residing in Lam Dong province). Th. was found far from where the super boat capsized.
The person who saved Th. was Nguyen Tan Vien (38 years old, from Long Hai commune), who works as a frog fisherman. Sharing on Vnexpress, Vien said that this morning, he drove his boat past the beach near his house to hunt frogs. When he had just left the port about 1.5km, Vien saw an arm raised and waving, about 1km away.
The man driving the boat came to ask, thinking it was a fellow diver waving to him. But when he got closer, he found the girl with a lifebuoy draped over her, calling for help in a weak voice, unable to say much.
Mr. Vien quickly jumped into the water and brought Th. onto the boat, giving her cakes, drinks and instructing her to lie down and rest. Mr. Vien also called his wife and she reported it to the local authorities. More than 20 minutes later, Mr. Vien's boat reached the shore and handed the victim over to the Phu Quy Island Border Guard.
After being taken to the District Medical Center for care, by the afternoon of October 27, Th.'s health had gradually stabilized.
Recounting to Nguoi Dua Tin newspaper, Th. is still shocked and haunted. According to Th., when the boat capsized, she was lucky to have a lifebuoy to hold on to. At that time, the girl was very scared, just drifting at sea and hoping someone would come to save her.
Thi sat on the buoy, the weather was very cold. The waves pushed her far away and hit her continuously, causing Th. to vomit. Because the distance was too far, Th.'s attempts to call for help became hopeless. The female tourist just drifted on the sea.
This morning, Th. was exhausted when he suddenly saw a boat. Hope flashed, Th. waved for help and was rescued onto the boat and brought to the mainland.
Thi said she didn't think anyone would see her. She had thought of the worst case scenario in her head, but luckily she overcame it.
Earlier, at noon on October 26, Th.'s group of 6 people stayed at Villa Windy (Quy Hai village, Long Hai commune). In the afternoon, the group went swimming at the beach in Long Hai commune, then took 2 sups and 1 life jacket in front of the villa to go swimming and paddle SUP about 200m from the shore. This is a sea area where SUP activities are not allowed.
At around 6 p.m. the same day, due to the influence of storm No. 6, strong winds and waves swept away 2 sups and 6 tourists. The villa staff used a canoe to rescue 3 female tourists. The remaining 3 tourists, including 1 female and 2 men, were drifting at sea and could not be found when the rescue boat returned.
At around 7 p.m. the same day, male tourist NXH (26 years old, residing in Dien Bien province) swam to shore about 1 km from the accident site. Female tourist Nguyen Ngoc Kim Th. (born in 2005, residing in Lam Dong province) was also rescued by fishermen on the morning of October 27.
Tourist Can Hoang M. (19 years old) has not been found yet. At noon on October 27, the search team found this tourist's sup. The search team is still actively searching for the remaining missing tourist.
Sharing with Dan Viet newspaper, some people living near the coastal area said that from last night until this morning, the sea area had strong winds and big waves, making the search difficult.
