Dan Rivera, 54, is a veteran who has been researching and investigating paranormal phenomena for over 10 years, specifically involving the Annabelle doll. According to Adams County dispatch records, paramedics responded to a hotel in Gettysburg (where he was staying while on tour with Devils on the Run) and administered CPR to Rivera.
Rivera was touring Gettysburg to showcase Annabelle, the doll named Raggedy Ann that the New England Society for Psychical Research described as "demonically possessed."
The New England Society for Psychical Research also confirmed Rivera's passing, in a Facebook post, describing him as a friend and frequent collaborator.
"We are deeply saddened and are trying to come to terms with this loss. Dan wanted to share his experiences and educate others about the supernatural. His kindness and passion touched the hearts of all who knew him. Thank you for your support and heartfelt words of encouragement during this difficult time," the association said.
The Devils on the Run tour in Gettysburg, organized by the Ghostly Images of Gettysburg touring group, took place at the Soldiers National Orphanage over the weekend, according to the Evening Sun.
Rivera also helped generate interest in the tour thanks to viral TikTok videos he co-produced, which have attracted millions of views, according to the Evening Sun. Rivera also produced and consulted on the Netflix series 28 Days Haunted, according to IMDb.
Ghostly Images of Gettysburg published a statement in People about Rivera's passing on July 15, saying: "Ghostly Images of Gettysburg was honored to host the nationally acclaimed Devils on the Run tour this past weekend, featuring a legendary object and respected investigators from the New England Society for Psychical Research. During the visit, the group experienced a tremendous loss with the sudden passing of Dan Rivera. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
Dan was a prominent figure in the paranormal community and will be remembered for his kindness and leadership. We extend our deepest condolences to Dan's family, friends, and colleagues. As we mourn the loss of a dear friend, we reaffirm our commitment to preserving the rich history and paranormal encounters that make Gettysburg so extraordinary."
According to the society's website, Rivera has been researching and investigating paranormal phenomena for more than 10 years, adding that he was born and raised in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and later served in the U.S. Army.
The cause of Rivera's death has not been released. People has reached out to the New England Society for Psychical Research, the Adams County Sheriff's Office and the Adams County Coroner's Office for more information.
The Story of Annabelle
According to the association, the doll's origins date back to 1968, when a nursing student was given the doll and brought it to the house where she lived with her friends.
"Almost immediately, the two roommates noticed strange phenomena with the doll and were referred to a psychic. This person told them that the doll was inhabited by the spirit of a young girl named Annabelle.... ", said the association representative.
The organization also added that its founders, two paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren, were called in and determined that Annabelle was possessed by a demon. They removed the doll from the house and kept it in a glass box "to contain the evil spirit." The story of Annabelle led to the birth of the horror film series The Conjuring, Annabelle.
Annabelle mysteriously disappears from the Warren Occult Museum
Because Annabelle's appearance is always associated with many mysterious spiritual phenomena, any information such as the incident of Annabelle disappearing in 2020 is enough to make the people of the United States panic. However, this is fake news, according to The Mercury News.
At the time of the incident, the hashtag #Annabelle immediately entered the list of most interested keywords worldwide with more than 450,000 posts about the "cursed" Annabelle doll as soon as the information about her "mysterious disappearance" broke out. The incident all originated from a video interview with British actress Annabelle Wallis with The Hollywood Reporter.
In the interview, Annabelle Wallis revealed how she made Tom Cruise , her co-star in the movie The Mummy, "sprint" in some scenes. Due to some technical errors, when the subtitles were automatically switched to Chinese, part of the story was translated as "Annabelle doll escapes", causing a stir on social networks. Especially when Annabelle Wallis participated in the movie Annabelle (2014) as Mia, making netizens believe the information even more.
Answering The Hollywood Reporter about her feelings when co-starring with actor Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis said: "I am extremely happy". According to the actress, the opportunity to work with Tom Cruise is like the feeling when her name is called to receive an Oscar. "I hope that wonderful feeling will never go away. It is precious to have someone who makes you excited so that you can do amazing things in life. I love talking about him", Annabelle Wallis said. However, when translated into Chinese, the answer "that wonderful feeling will never go away" was changed to "Annabelle escaped" . That sentence was shared online, attracting the attention of many people.
Annabelle is a famous "possessed" doll, who has appeared in many films such as The Conjuring (2013), Annabella (2014), Annabelle: Creation (2017), Shazam (2019).
The original Annabelle doll from the movie Annabelle is now on display at the Warren Occult Museum of Ed and Lorraine Warren (two famous psychics in the 1950s) in New England (USA). The artifacts in the museum were collected by Ed and Lorraine Warren from more than 10,000 supernatural cases they took on.
