In recent days, the west coast of Haikou City (Hainan Province, China) has become the center of public opinion when a strange silver creature suddenly appeared, stretching about 2km. At first glance, they looked like countless sparkling silver coins covering the sand, causing many curious locals and tourists to flock to film, record and share on social networks.

However, experts immediately issued an urgent warning: tourists absolutely must not touch them. It is known that these beautiful silver coins are actually silver jellyfish, also known as coin jellyfish, which are poisonous even when they are dead, causing severe burns and allergies. This phenomenon has forced local environmental agencies to mobilize forces to clean up for many days in harsh weather conditions.

Silver coin or poison messenger?

The phenomenon of coin jellyfish drifting is not uncommon in nature, but this time, their density of appearance is unusually dense, stretching for kilometers, covering the Haikou coast. Expert Lu Gang, Director of the Damman Wetland Research Institute, affirmed that this is a rare sight.

What makes local authorities and experts extremely worried is the potential danger of this creature. Environmental expert Ma Quan explained that silver jellyfish are creatures that live in colonies, made up of hundreds of symbiotic hydras. When stimulated, they will release toxins.

Even more frightening, experts warn that silver jellyfish are poisonous even after death. The poison remains in their bodies after being washed ashore by the waves. Therefore, touching them with bare hands or walking barefoot on the sand can cause burns, swelling, allergies or even severe allergic reactions if visitors accidentally step on or come into contact with them.

Clean-up crews face difficulties and stern warnings

Haikou cleanup crews are having a hard time dealing with the strange creatures that have covered the shoreline. Faced with the potential health risks, local environmental authorities have been mobilizing workers to clean up the mess, but progress has been slow due to the weather and terrain. In particular, because these silver coin jellyfish cling tightly to the sand, crews can only use rakes to carefully collect them.

In response to the situation, local authorities have issued a strict warning: Residents and visitors are asked to absolutely not pick up or touch these creatures, even just to take pictures. People should stay away from the area where the jellyfish are to avoid the risk of toxicity and wait for the authorities to handle it. Although most of the area has been cleaned up, new waves of jellyfish are still being washed ashore. Authorities hope the cleanup will be completed soon, returning the beach to safety for visitors.
