Bang Chan, whose real name is Christopher Bang, was born on October 3, 1997 in Seoul, South Korea. He is a South Korean male singer, songwriter, Rapper, and Dancer.
Currently, Bang Chan is a member of boy band Stray Kids and is a leader, vocalist, rapper, Dancer, Producer founded and managed by JYP Entertainment.
He is the eldest of five members including father, mother, sister and younger brother. So the young man formed a caring character, caring for people from an early age. In the land of kangaroos, Bang Chan enrolled at New Town Arts High School. Here, he had the opportunity to be exposed to music after attending the school's ballet and modern dance classes.
During this time, the young man gradually found his passion for music. In 2010, Bang Chan auditioned for JYP Entertainment's trainee competition in Australia.
After passing the audition, Bang Chan returned to Korea to begin his musical journey in the spring of 2011. During his training, he was always appreciated by the coaching staff for his talent in composing, singing and rapping.
Bang Chan spent seven years of his youth in the gym and underwent rigorous performance tests. Before him, there were many trainees who left the company due to substandard at monthly selection sessions.
When witnessing his fellow trainees like GOT7's Bambam and TWICE's Jihyo debuting and achieving success, Bang Chan took that as motivation to try. The young man remained steadfast in pursuing his passion for music at JYP.
After seven years of practice, plus the formidable bravery of a leader, Bang Chan scored points ahead of president Park Jin Young thanks to his proficient rapping, dancing and singing skills. Bang Chan made his debut with his mini album "I am NOT" as the leader, vocalist, dancer, composer, lyricist and rapper of Stray Kids on March 25, 2018. Until 2021, the Stray Kids group won the number one spot on the reality show Kingdom Legendary War under the leadership of Bang Chan.
Bang Chan is also jokingly known as "Dad Bang" of Stray Kids. As soon as it was introduced, Stray Kids contributed to raising the definition of "idol-group self-sufficiency" to a new level because the group was formed by ... leader Bang Chan, not JYP. Chan gathered the male trainees together, practiced in groups, thereby forming Stray Kids with the 9-member squad as it is now. The name Stray Kids was also created by Chan and the members "self-advocacy".
Not only in the name, the act of Chan caring and helping the other 8 members also turns him into a real "father". In the dormitory, Chan takes on the role of the main chef, being the trusted brother of the juniors especially when the stomach is empty! In the survival reality show Stray Kids, member Felix was eliminated for not rapping in standard Korean, the leader of the group hugged his younger brother.
However, Bang Chan was also very strict with the juniors. Accordingly, he was once questioned for criticizing the junior band for having a disrespectful attitude. During a livestream on May 15, 2023, Stray Kids' Bang Chan shared memories from the Music Bank in Paris concert in April 2023. Notably, Bang Chan openly criticized some artists of the new generation for being impolite to him. Specifically, the male god born in 1997 said he enthusiastically greeted his colleagues but was flattered by them. Through this incident, Stray Kids members expressed disappointment that many young artists of the new generation are no longer seeing greetings as necessary behavior.
Not stopping there, Bang Chan also revealed that the colleague mentioned by the male idol did not have any connection with him: "With people I am close to or know, I feel they are very good. But what about people we don't know... Or is it because I don't have any connection with them, so they are. I guess that's the reason for everything."
The list of artists performing at Music Bank in Paris in April includes IVE, Stray Kids, MAMAMOO, ENHYPEN, NMIXX, The Boyz, AB61X. From this list and Bang Chan's relationships, netizens believe that IVE is the group mentioned by Stray Kids in the livestream. Because, IVE is the only group on the list that does not have any connection with male idols born in 1997.
He also hinted on the livestream, candidly talking about the departure of Woojin, the scandal-ridden member of Stray Kids. Speaking on live, Bang Chan revealed, "I know someone who faces the worst consequences for making a lot of mistakes and those things really affect him. If you made promises to the team, live responsibly and deliver on those promises. The STAYs know who they're referring to."
Soon after, a staff member urged Bang Chan to end the livestream. Apparently, the guy touched on the topic of teamwork and betrayal. Fans believe that the leader is hinting at the incident of member Woojin leaving the group right before his comeback in October 2019. This event caused JYP's boy group to reschedule the release of the album, which was already ready to hit the shelves.
