Core Contents Media (now MLB Entertainment) announced that member Areum would be leaving T-Ara to pursue a solo career.
On October 20, 2019, Areum married her non-celebrity businessman boyfriend Kim Young-geol in a ceremony held in Seoul. Earlier, it was revealed that the couple had originally planned to get married in 2020 but left ahead of schedule due to her early pregnancy. Areum announced via Instagram on October 6, 2019 that she was pregnant with her first child.
After 07 months on May 31, 2020, the two welcomed their first son named Kim Jaeha. Later, Areum and his wife also participated in a reality TV show called "Caught Between Marriage & Divorce" - This is a reality show about couples healing in marriage. On the show, she has repeatedly admitted that her marriage is not sweet.
In November 2022, Areum announced her second pregnancy and was due to give birth in January 2023. The beauty wrote: "My husband cooks for me every day. Our second child is a priceless gift because everything in my family has changed, for the better. We are very happy. We both wanted a second baby. This was not a mistake on the part of the couple."
Until December 10, 2023, she revealed the divorce lawsuit is ongoing due to her long suffering in her marriage. In addition, Areum also shared about the lack of fidelity in love that made the marriage unhappy. She will also remarry the man who supported her during that time as soon as her case is over. When talking about the current man, Areum said:
"Before I met my current boyfriend, I was traumatized. I have proof, but I don't immediately state it. He's the father of my child anyway. I wanted a divorce a few years ago but he wouldn't let me get fulfilled."
The singer also opened up about how lack of fidelity in love made the marriage unhappy. "Cheating happens when you fall in love with 2 people at the same time. I gave birth to my 2nd child alone and suffered for a long time," the singer confided.
Talking about the current man, the former T-ara member said that he gives her a sense of security and peace after much trauma. She cherished the current relationship.
"He taught me the true meaning of love during my time of hurt. He was also the only one who didn't mind difficulties to come to me when I was struggling," she said.
Recently, the former T-ara member spoke in detail about her ex-husband's poor treatment of her children after the post that made headlines on Instagram.
Speaking to South Korea's Osen newspaper on the morning of March 3, Areum said she was preparing to take necessary measures and sue her ex-husband, businessman Kim Young Gul, for child exploitation. The singer claimed her ex-husband regularly beat her two sons, ages 4 and one.
"My eldest son told me about it before, but I just thought it was a child's word. After that, they both kept talking over and over again. As they grew older, their communication skills were also clearer and more coherent, so both of them described them very vividly and realistically. The one-year-old was thrown into bed by his father every time he cried. He even hit him on the head and threw him out the door," Ahreum said.
The former T-ara member also accused Kim Young Gul of urinating on her children's faces and even defecating on their eldest children's faces. "He told the kids he hated them," Areum continued.
Late last year, Areum caused controversy when she almost simultaneously announced her divorce and new husband. At the time, she also revealed that she had offered to give up custody of her children to reach a divorce settlement. However, now the singer has decided to take care of and protect her children after learning about their father's bad treatment.
Areum said: "Everyone says I abandoned him for a new love, but I never did. After leaving the children, I cried every day. When I heard him talk about being treated badly, it hurt me like I wanted to die."
The singer also posted videos of her children's narration and photos of them bruised by their father on her profile. "I haven't seen him contacted after posting. Even during the divorce process, we went through lawyers. Now I have presented evidence and am determined to sue him," Areum added.
