According to SCMP, Thai Thien Phuong bought an apartment here and gave it to her ex-father-in-law in October 2019. The 170 m2 4-bedroom apartment was traded for HKD 73 million, which included HKD 3 million in taxes and fees. In recent months, because Thai Thien Phuong wants to sell a luxury apartment in Kandooria Hill and does not get the consent of her ex-father-in-law. Currently, 4 members of Thai Thien Phuong's ex-husband's family including Quang Cau, Quang Cang Tri, Quang Cang Kiet, and Ly Thuy Huong (Quang Cau's wife) have been detained without bail. They appeared in court on February 27 and the next hearing will take place on May 8.

A fifth suspect, surnamed Wu, believed to be Quang Cau's lover, was also arrested and charged with assisting the victim's ex-father-in-law in renting an apartment in Lung Mei Tsuen as a crime scene. This woman is a massage therapist and has been in a relationship with Quang Cau for about 6 months. Wu is also suspected of renting a luxury apartment in the Kowloon area, where Tsai's ex-husband was hiding before being arrested on February 25 when he was about to flee Hong Kong.
