In 2019, the news that Sulli took her own life shook the Korean entertainment world and made fans of the idol feel sorry. After 4 years, the documentary 'Dear Jinri' about Sulli has announced its release date for audiences and fans.
Specifically, 'Dear Jinri' recently released its trailer on September 5 and is expected to be officially premiered for the first time at the 28th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF2023) in October. The movie 'Dear Jinri' was originally titled Persona: Sulli. According to multiple sources, Netflix is negotiating the possibility of releasing a special about the late famous artist Sulli.
In 'Dear Jinri' there was an interview with Sulli in 2019 before the singer's death. In the trailer revealed, Sulli is asked to introduce herself to the camera. Sulli replied, "Is it okay to just introduce the name? (laughs) Hello everyone. I'm Choi Jinri."
Below the trailer, fans expressed their pity for the K-pop idol:
"I'm crying a lot. I hid the fact that she was gone. I lived as if she were still in this world, living her life peacefully as I still live my life. And now that reality struck me again, I couldn't help but burst into tears. Can't wait for this movie."
"I smiled at her childhood pictures so I thought I was fine, but seeing her at the end was... I couldn't stop crying."
The organizers of the BIFF2023 also described this documentary as worth watching because it is the last footage to explore the life and career of this talented artist through obscure corners before Sulli's death.
Originally, the documentary 'Dear Jinri' was called Persona 2, which was billed as the second season of the miniseries Persona starring Sulli (the first season starring IU). During the filming of episode 2, Sulli took his own life at the age of 25 on October 14, 2019 at the age of 25 after a long battle with prolonged depression.
Because of the late artist's sudden demise, the documentary 'Dear Jinri' could not be completed for many years. Reportedly, the producers decided to finalize the documentary and the singer's final interview to be screened at this year's Busan Film Festival.
Reportedly, the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) 2023 will be held from October 4 to October 13.
The 28th BIFF will screen 209 films from 69 countries. Cannes Prize-winning Korean actor Song Kang-ho was chosen as the host at the festival, according to Yonhap.
Sulli, whose real name is Choi Jinri, was born in 1994, is a popular South Korean singer, actress, and model. In 2005, she debuted as a child actress in the historical drama Song of Seodong. After that, she starred in many other TV series and movies.
Sulli began her music career as a member of SM's girl group f(x), which debuted in 2009.
Yonhap said that according to Sulli's close aides, before her death, she suffered from depression for a long time due to hateful comments and public opposition.
Sulli was bullied online for years after it was reported she was dating Choiza of the boy band Dynamic Duo.
The couple admitted to their romantic relationship in 2013. In 2015, she officially left f(x) to focus on her acting career.
The following year, Sulli and Choiza reportedly ended their relationship.
Malicious comments continued against her online as she posted controversial braless photos.
Sulli condemned women's underwear as "unhealthy", calling for women's right not to wear bras.
Her passing has sparked public alarm about cyberbullying against celebrities and people in general.
Following Sulli's death, an online petition was posted on the official website of the presidential office, calling for the enactment of a "Choi Jinri law" requiring people to leave comments online under their names and legal identities.
