Rupert Grint is one of the three luckiest children in the world, having put his name on the hit Harry Potter series with 2 co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson. Up to now, Rupert Grint's life has had many unexpected changes.
Grint was born in Harlow, Essex and grew up in Hertfordshire. Before landing the role in the Harry Potter film series, he had only acted in school plays and local theater groups.
In 2000, hearing that the Harry Potter film crew was casting actors, the whole UK was buzzing. For any young girl, participating in the wizarding world of Harry Potter on the big screen must be a splendid dream. That hope was even slimmer for Rupert Grint, then 12, the son of a racetrack memorabilia dealer, whose acting experience measured in only a few minor supporting roles in a school play.
However, luck smiled on Grint, as a video of him rapping about wanting the role caught the eye of filmmakers. Along with Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, Rupert Grint is officially among the three luckiest children in the world.
The next 10 years were a string of hard days on set. Harry Potter was a huge success, becoming a global phenomenon. To date, eight films (part 7 divided into two films) have grossed up to $ 8.5 billion, second only to two giant franchises, Star Wars and Avengers. Child actors naturally become teenage millionaires.
Despite being inferior to his two co-stars, Grint pocketed $25 million. It is too good baggage for both acting and entering life that any actor desires. Grint's path to fame to the top is strewn with rose petals.
However, the star life brought many troubles with Rupert Grint. He feels pressure to always be in the spotlight every time he goes out on the street. During a business trip to Tokyo, he and his co-stars were chased by hundreds of children on the streets for autographs. "It's a scary experience when you're a kid," he told Radio Times.
The actor is also under pressure to be associated with the character of Ron Weasley. After the much-loved role, the audience wanted him to keep the character's personality in real life. Emma Watson may be both a smart, kind little Hermione on screen and in real life. But for Grint, living with the image of the goofy, post-bean Ron isn't easy.
For the next 10 years after the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, audiences no longer saw this guy appear on the big screen.
Unlike his colleagues Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint was almost forgotten after the success of the Harry Potter film series. If the other two continue to star in Hollywood blockbusters, Ron chooses to go his own way with low-budget independent films and theater.
The actor told the Independent: "I'm not ambitious. After Harry Potter, I wanted to show my acting ability. However, my personality is easy to give up and lack confidence. I'm easily satisfied and accept the way things happen."
In 2011, while still receiving a lot of attention from the public, Rupert Grint retired, not taking on any major projects. Many experts say the actor passed up a "golden" opportunity to develop his career. Grint said he was tired and wanted to rest after 10 years in the wizard's cloak at Hogwarts. He returned to acting after two years, but the projects did not resonate, being critically panned.
The failure caused Rupert Grint to lose his love for cinema. He began to move into theater in his hometown and received more positive feedback. Grint received the "Best New Face" award at the WhatsOnStage Awards in 2014 for his comedy Mojo. A year later, he began to appear regularly in Broadway theaters (USA). According to MTV, Rupert Grint learned a lot on stage and rediscovered his love of acting but has no intention of moving permanently to the United States to pursue a career because he hates living away from home.
By the time he got out of the shadow of Ron's character and his acting career, Rupert Grint was spending more time with himself. Rupert once confided: "My first dream career in life was selling ice cream. So I did it." This is not a joke, but done seriously and well. The first car he bought himself was an ice cream car. Grint often drove and handed out free ice cream to the children in the area.
Speaking to a local newspaper, Grint said: "My whole childhood was devoted to Harry Potter. I always felt like I had lost something." As it turned out, what he lost was his childhood. 10 years of roaming with the film crew, immersing myself in the magical world, only meeting and communicating with co-stars, people in the crew, growing up with them. Everything in the outside world became alien to him.
Burying his head in his acting career, the years passed, Grint himself once admitted, just the other day he was a 12-year-old boy, full of excitement for the magical world, but overnight, he woke up to find himself growing into a 29-year-old. It all flashed like a blink of an eye.
Grint wasn't ready to start a relationship with anyone, nor had he ever fallen in love. On his 29th birthday, Grint says he still feels like he did in his teens. He couldn't even imagine that he was old enough to play a father on film.
For now, Rupert Grint feels life is fulfilling. At the end of 2019, he starred in the series Servant and received many compliments from the audience and critics. Besides acting, he set up Eevil Plan Properties (now worth around £24m) which deals in real estate in his hometown. He lives with his girlfriend and newborn child in London.
In recent years, the actor has spent a lot of time doing charity work. He focuses on child health care awareness projects. Since 2011, he has partnered with Cancer Research UK, which organises a programme to honour resilient young patients battling cancer. In 2014, he became an ambassador of Starlight Children's Foundation, a non-profit organization that fulfills the wishes of children with serious illnesses.
