Quang Tuan's journey on Running Man Vietnam has truly been a "transformation," turning viewers from bewilderment to affection. With each passing episode, his clumsiness and sincerity have become the most endearing aspect of this season.
In a rare interview with reporters, Quang Tuan opened up about his journey out of his comfort zone, from trembling in front of over a hundred cameras, to thinking he might ruin the show, to the moment Tran Thanh came and patted him on the shoulder, reassuring him: "Just let me save the Princess."
"For my wife and children, I stepped out of my comfort zone."
Quang Tuan recounted that he accepted the show for a simple reason: his wife liked the program, his daughter, Gạo, loved game shows, and he believed that seeing her father play his heart out on TV was worthwhile.
Initially, he himself doubted his own abilities, the serious man of film suddenly finding himself in a world full of "talking machines" like Tran Thanh, Lan Ngoc, Lien Binh Phat, and Quang Trung. In the first two episodes, he admitted to feeling "completely out of place," even feeling so confused that he wanted to run away.
It was Tran Thanh who pulled him back: "Since you've taken their money, just give it your all. Sincerity is what earns the audience's love." Thanks to that statement, Quang Tuan shed the pressure and returned to his true nature: simple, genuine, and so endearing that he was nicknamed "Princess."
"PRINCESS" ON SCREEN, A WARM HUSBAND AND FATHER BEHIND THE CAMERA
The nickname "Princess" originated from a childish tantrum caused by exhaustion. After watching the movie, little Gạo once asked, "Dad, you're a man, why do they call you a princess?" , which made him explain awkwardly.
When Quang Tuan goes on shows, the whole team loves him. Tran Thanh often "throws jokes" to help him get screen time, while Lan Ngoc, Lien Binh Phat, Anh Tu, Quang Trung, and Quan AP always check on him and "support" him whenever he's feeling awkward.
He recounted: "Behind the cameras, the atmosphere is completely different. Everyone takes care of each other. Tran Thanh once ran over to rub oil on his injured finger. When Lan Ngoc had a sore leg, the whole team urged her to rest." For Quang Tuan, Running Man is... a family.
NO TRICKS, NO SCHEMES, JUST PLAY WITH A CLEAR CONSCIENCE
When asked why he remained so gentle and didn't resort to underhanded tactics, he laughed and said, "I can't do it. Tearing off someone's name tag from behind looks really weird." This even made Tran Thanh exclaim, "What kind of hero are you talking about?!" But later, Quang Tuan gradually adapted, becoming more agile, less shy, and truly embodying the image of someone who's been through a lot but is willing to let loose.
MAINTAINING A GOOD IMAGE IS NOT ABOUT LOOKING GOOD, BUT ABOUT MAKING YOUR CHILD PROUD.
In real life, Quang Tuan is a doting father, dedicating all his free time to his wife and two children, Gao and Cine. He tells his family story very honestly: he once argued with his wife about parenting methods, and he was too soft-hearted when the children were fussy at bedtime, only to realize his wife was right because her patience helped the children develop good habits. He laughs, "If I were the one teaching them, they'd probably sleep until 12 noon now."
DEDICATED TO THE PROFESSION, NOT CHASING THE NOISE
Although his TikTok account became a sensation thanks to its humor, Quang Tuan still maintains the view that artists live off their audience, must know how to listen to feedback, and should not let their ego get too big.
The film "Searching for Ambergris Dragon" was a turning point for him because it was his first action role. Although he had studied Taekwondo and earned a black belt, he almost had to start training from scratch, and every day he came home with shaky hands and feet. In Running Man, the finger he broke in the action film was still bent. When the film was released and received praise, he simply said, "Lucky."
CONTINUOUS PRODUCTIVITY BUT WITHOUT GREEDY
Some have commented that he "has a lot of screen time but the quality isn't consistent," especially since some films like "The Corpse Possessed" or "The Haunted House" didn't meet expectations. Quang Tuan stated frankly: "The release schedule is decided by the producer. The only thing I can do is be sincere and do my best when I've accepted a role." He likened actors to people coloring in a director's painting. A script might be great to read, but the result on screen can be different, and he respects that.
QUANG TUAN: AN ARTIST WHO PLAYS AND LIVES BEAUTIFULLY
From someone initially doubted when his name was first announced, Quang Tuan has now become a beloved member of Running Man Vietnam. Without gimmicks or drama, he has achieved success through sincerity, kindness, and hard work, embodying the spirit of a "man who wants his daughter to be proud of him." And perhaps the journey of this "Princess" has only just begun.
Quang Tuan earns 1 billion/movie but only receives 200,000 VND per day from his wife?
