Pique was heavily criticized for publicly insulting Shakira, xenophobic and even racist

On April 1, Gerard Pique appeared on YouTuber Gerard Romero's podcast. Here, the former footballer mentions how he has faced criticism since parting ways with Shakira in June 2022.

Pique confessed that at first he felt things were so bad that he could plunge into the abyss if the pressure reached its peak. According to Pique, his nonchalant attitude saved his mental health. He claims to not care about unimportant things, the only thing to worry about is "serious health, family and relationship problems".

"My ex is Latin American. You can't imagine the comments I get on social media from her fans. Millions of vulgarity. But I don't care about any of them. Honestly, it's not because I don't know them. These people have no lives and why should I care?I'll never meet them, they're cyborgs, you understand? ", said Pique in Spanish.

The former centre-back thinks that the attitude of indifference is good because people will die if they care about people's opinions. "They want you to worry and when you do, they win. You have to show them you don't care because that makes them angrier," he insisted.

Gerard Pique's shares immediately aroused outrage in the online community, including Shakira. People criticized the xenophobic, racist Pique for referring to Latin Americans as vulgar people.

"Why do you have to mention that your ex is Latin American? Do you mean that Latinos are more disruptive than people from other countries? Why are you making such a statement? in that, Shakira has fans all over the world. He's really digging his own grave."
