Meritorious Artist Kim Tiểu Long recently revealed his reclusive life in the countryside after deciding to leave the profession to raise chickens and cattle. The male artist sent chills down the spines of netizens when he recounted nights of waking up startled and the haunting feeling of being punished by the patron saint of the performing arts after leaving the stage.
The fall of the "Prince Charming" and his escape to the countryside.
In the 1990s and 2000s, Kim Tieu Long was a name synonymous with the success of classic Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera) plays such as "Tram Hoa Mai" and "Wife Is Everything." Possessing a handsome appearance and a sweet voice, he was affectionately called "Prince Charming." However, at the peak of his career, the artist unexpectedly faced a series of misfortunes, from health issues to career setbacks. His demanding schedule of performances caused him to lose his voice and breath, preventing him from fully delivering his performances to the audience.
Desperate and exhausted, Kim Tieu Long decided to leave Ho Chi Minh City and return to his hometown to live a secluded life. He abandoned the spotlight to become a true farmer, tending buffaloes, raising chickens, and planting trees. The artist recalled: "There was a time when I quit acting because I couldn't understand why I was so unlucky. I struggled and felt so hopeless that I wanted to live isolated from society." However, the peaceful life in the countryside did not bring the peace he had hoped for; instead, he spent long, sleepless nights yearning for his profession.
The call from the ancestral spirits and haunting, "spine-chilling" dreams.
In the arts world, it's widely believed that artists are "chosen and blessed by the gods." Leaving the stage prematurely is often seen as an act of betrayal. Kim Tiểu Long confessed that during his time away from the stage, he lived in constant anxiety. Nightmares about being "punished by the gods" frequently plagued his sleep, causing him to shudder with fear on many occasions.
He recounted in a trembling voice, "I kept dreaming that I was wearing traditional costumes and performing cải lương (Vietnamese traditional opera) on stage. It felt so real. But then I suddenly realized I had abandoned the profession. The feeling of guilt and betrayal made me wake up with a start, drenched in sweat in the middle of the night." Those dreams served as a spiritual reminder that the connection between him and his profession had not been broken. This persistent remorse became the motivation for him to reconnect with provincial theater troupes, accepting performances on even the smallest stages to regain his voice and health.
A journey of redemption and a desire to contribute in old age.
Overcoming ups and downs and spiritual fears, Kim Tieu Long returns with a more "calm" and confident mindset. The male artist views past events as valuable lessons, and at the same time, he does not hesitate to learn and distill the essence from his predecessors to enrich his artistic repertoire.
Despite having lived abroad, the flame of passion for cải lương (Vietnamese traditional opera) within him remains ever-burning. Kim Tiểu Long affirms that he will live a good life, contributing to society to repay the debt to the profession and the affection of the audience. His journey is not only about reclaiming his star glory, but also a profound lesson about cherishing the artist's calling and the principle of "drinking water, remembering the source."
