At 65 years old, Trung Anh still surprises many viewers by maintaining a busy lifestyle, even though he officially retired a few years ago.
For him, leaving the Vietnam National Drama Theatre does not mean abandoning the arts, but merely a transitional milestone to continue practicing the profession in a different way.
Born in 1961, the artist rose to prominence on the theater stage – a foundation that helped him make a profound mark in the field of television. Throughout his more than 45-year artistic career, he has not only been familiar with the image of kind and gentle fathers, but has also demonstrated his versatility through various roles. Audiences were strongly impressed by his portrayal of Luong Bong in the TV series "The Judge" and the sharp-witted police colonel in "Battle of Wits." In particular, his role as Father Son in "Go Home, My Son" won the hearts of many viewers, making him the quintessential "national father" on screen.
Although he retired in 2021, artist Trung Anh's life is far from quiet. He still teaches at the Hanoi University of Theatre and Film and participates in many film projects. The artist frankly shared that he doesn't feel the sense of emptiness that many people experience upon retirement. On the contrary, having work to do helps him maintain his enthusiasm and avoid feeling lonely. He said: "Many people say retirement is sad and makes you feel empty, luckily I don't have that feeling... My biggest fear is not being able to work in the profession."
For artist Trung Anh, the greatest value lies not in titles or fame, but in living life to the fullest with his profession. Even though he has been awarded the title of People's Artist, he still believes it's not the ultimate goal. He even expressed feeling "burdened" by having to bear such titles, because, in his opinion, the recognition of the audience is the most precious reward.
In his sixties, the artist enjoys a stable life thanks to his pension and income from teaching and acting. His daily routine is regular and disciplined: waking up early, tending to his plants, drinking tea, reading, and watching football. These simple habits contribute to his positive spirit and stable health.
Not only successful in his career, artist Trung Anh is also admired by many for his happy family life that has lasted nearly 30 years. He married in 1997 to his wife, who is 10 years younger and works in the electricity industry. They met by chance in Thai Thinh neighborhood, Hanoi, and have been together ever since.
From the very beginning of their life together, artist Trung Anh frankly shared with his wife that he didn't have many advantages in terms of appearance or outstanding talent, so he could only devote himself entirely to his profession. He hoped his wife would understand and support him. Although she considered it a casual remark, his wife took it as a commitment and silently became his strong support system for many years.
In the family, his wife handles most of the responsibilities, from work and household chores to their children's education. The artist admits that he hardly has to worry about these things, and even "doesn't know what to worry about." He emotionally shared that his wife has never complained, but he understands the hardships she goes through and always wants to compensate and love her more.
Trust is a crucial element in the longevity of their marriage. In the art world, which is full of relationships, artist Trung Anh says he is grateful that his wife is always understanding, never jealous, and never lets trivial matters affect their family. It is this empathy that has created a solid foundation for their marriage, which has lasted nearly three decades.
His family currently includes two children. His eldest son is already working, while his youngest daughter is studying abroad in the US and received a full scholarship for a 5-year doctoral program. Despite being known for his image as an exemplary father on screen, actor Trung Anh admits that in real life he only scores "5-6 out of 10." He acknowledges that he is quite hot-tempered in raising his children and in daily life, but he and his wife always agree on guiding them, not imposing their will, allowing their children to decide their own future.
At nearly 70 years old, artist Trung Anh chooses a quiet, peaceful life, yet one that remains full of energy. Behind the image of a veteran artist is a principled, simple, and affectionate man. His ability to balance his passion for his profession with a harmonious family life makes him an admirable role model, not only in the art world but also in the eyes of the public.
