After weeks of trial of the century between the explosive star couple, the jury discovered that both celebrities had been defaming each other, Depp celebrated and Heard was beyond words in frustration.
After weeks of explosive testimony and three days of deliberation, the jury reached another verdict on Wednesday (local time) in the defamation case between Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard.
And while the jury trial found that each smeared the other, Depp celebrated the verdict as a victory and Heard declared his disappointment "unspeakable".
Here are some of the classic moments from the entertainment industry's historic trial, including statements and allegations of domestic abuse.
Depp's severed finger
Hours of testimony during the six-week trial were devoted to a macabre incident in March 2015 in Australia, where Depp was filming the fifth season of Pirates of the Caribbean .
Depp's right middle fingertip was severed during a heated argument with Heard at their rented home.
Depp says it happened when Heard threw a bottle of vodka at him. Heard said she doesn't know how it happened but it's possible it was when he smashed a wall phone.
The two agreed even though Depp used his bloody numerals to scribble cryptic messages on the walls, lampshades and mirrors in the house.
Trouble defecation in bed
Among the many bizarre episodes cited during the trial was a story about Amber Heard defecating in Johnny Depp and her bed.
Depp said he was shown a photo of "human excrement" in bed after he and Heard argued at her 30th birthday party.
However, Heard thinks they are "products" from his pet dogs. Heard said one dog had intestinal problems after eating some of Depp's marijuana as a puppy.
The U60 actor denies the possibility of being a "product" of pet dogs because he has lived with them for many years, distinguishing between humans and dogs.
Star Witness
Both sides presented multiple witnesses, although the rumored testimony of billionaire Elon Musk, Heard's ex-boyfriend and her co-star James Franco ultimately failed to materialize. But there were celebrities who showed up.
Kate Moss - Depp's ex-girlfriend, has played down a long-standing rumor that he once threw a British model down the stairs of an airplane. Moss said by video link that never happened.
Model Kate Moss was sworn in via video link at Fairfax County Courthouse in Virginia in May.
Actress Ellen Barkin, another ex-girlfriend, testified that Depp was jealous, controlling and drunk "a lot of the time", and once threw a bottle of wine in a hotel room.
Other witnesses included bodyguards, agents, business executives, doctors, friends, relatives and even the former doorman of the posh attic complex where the couple once lived in Los Angeles.
Doorman Alejandro Romero was probably speaking on behalf of many involved in the incident when he said: "I'm very stressed. I don't want to deal with this any further."
Audio and video recordings of heated, profane arguments between Depp and Heard were included as evidence. In a video recorded by Heard in their kitchen, Depp is seen screaming, smashing glass cabinets and pouring himself a giant glass of red wine.
Both Depp and Heard sent photos of injuries they claimed were inflicted by the other. Heard's lawyers also released purported photographs showing Depp fainting after drinking excessively or using drugs.
Text messages between Depp and various people are shown in which he describes in crude and violent language what he wants to see happen to Heard.
Depp's lawyers downplayed the texts, saying he only had a colorful spelling, similar to that of his late friend, journalist Hunter S. Thompson.
Fans of actor Johnny Depp react to the verdict in the libel lawsuit against actor Amber Heard outside Fairfax County Circuit Court in Virginia on Wednesday.
Depp fans lined up for hours every day to get their coveted seats in the courtroom held in Fairfax, Virginia.
While the audience members mostly adjudicated themselves, Judge Penney Azcarate threatened to deport them at one point during Heard's testimony. "If I hear one more sound, I'll delete the gallery," warned Azcarate.
Depp fans have also launched a massive social media campaign to support the actor with the hashtag #JusticeForJohnnyDepp.
Amber Heard has received thousands of death threats. "People want to kill me and they tell me so every day," she said.
The trial was watched by millions of people online. Many of them created memes or animated GIFs in real time, most often praising Depp and mocking Heard.
Both Depp, a three-time Oscar nominee, and Heard have both claimed their careers have been damaged.
Heard, who starred in Aquaman , one of the highest-grossing films ever, says she has struggled to retain a role in Aquaman 2 and alleged that Depp tried let Warner Brothers cut her off from the sequel.
Finding both to be libelous, the jury awarded Johnny Depp US$15 million and Amber Heard US$2 million
Heard's legal team spoke to an entertainment industry expert who estimated she lost $45-50 million in lost film and television roles and claims.
An industry expert hired by Depp said he lost millions of dollars to allegations of abuse, including $22.5 million to Pirates' Friday payday.
But Tracey Jacobs, Depp's former agent, said there's never been an official deal for another Pirates movie.
Jacobs also said the actor's stardom began to fade in 2010 because of "unprofessional behavior" including drinking and drug use.
