At the final trial of the defamation lawsuit between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, the two stars' legal teams questioned each other and reached a final conclusion before the jury reached a verdict. .
Specifically, at the beginning of the trial, lawyer Camille Vasquez - Depp's legal representative - stood up to question Amber Heard. Camille Vasquez reiterated in court that May 27 marks the 6th anniversary of the actress filing a temporary quarantine order against Depp in 2016.
"Today, we're asking you to give Depp real life back by telling the world he wasn't your abuser. I ask you to take responsibility for your actions. . The important thing in this trial is that a man's reputation has been ruined. He lost everything because of the accusations of his ex-wife," the lawyer told the jury.
At the same time, Depp's legal representative played an audio tape, in which Heard admitted to hitting her ex-husband.
"There is an abuser in this courtroom, but that person is not Depp. There is a victim of domestic violence in this courtroom but that person is not Heard," Camille Vasquez said.
The lawyer added that six years ago, Heard created an image of a woman being abused by her husband with a picture of her bruised face taken by paparazzi. However, the paparazzi did not know that those mysterious bruises were all fake. Heard or Depp and many of their witnesses knew that well.
According to Camille Vasquez, in every argument, Depp was the first to leave to avoid a possible tense fight between the couple.
Citing the story on the previous stairs, the lawyer confirmed that not only Depp but Heard's sister - Whitney Henriquez - was also a victim of abuse by the Hollywood star.
In addition, lawyer Benjamin Chew - Depp's legal representative also emphasized that Depp's lawsuit against his ex-wife for defamation was not for money purposes. The most important thing that actor Donnie Brasco wants is to regain his honor, his personal brand that has been tarnished before.
"Depp doesn't want to punish Heard. He's lived a life like a prison for the past 6 years. And now Depp wants to be freed. He also wants his two children, Lily-Rose and Jack, not to misunderstand their father. The last thing Depp wants is the truth," Benjamin Chew shared.
Depp's attorney added that Depp has always supported the #MeToo movement but that Heard is not a victim of domestic violence.
"Depp never said he was the perfect man. But that doesn't mean he's ruined by cruel lies. Heard's lies have grown and ingrained in her. . We have to stop that," emphasized Depp's legal representative.
Before Depp's share, Heard's legal representative made a counter argument. Attorney Benjamin Rottenborn told the jury: "If Heard had been abused by Depp even once, she would have won. And we're not just talking about physical abuse, it includes psychological abuse, abuse. financial abuse, sexual abuse".
To back up his point, Benjamin Rottenborn said the jury should look closely at the messages Depp's side said about domestic violence.
"In Depp's mind, if someone leaves him, Depp will do anything to ruin your life. It could be a global campaign of humiliation," he added.
Another lawyer for Heard, Elaine Bredehoft, continued the argument. Lawyers denied Depp's claims that Heard lied when he made the abuse allegations. Elaine Bredehoft thinks the Aquaman actor has no reason to make up a story about domestic abuse.
In the last 6 minutes of the lawsuit, the actress's side expressed her wish for the jury to think of domestic abuse victims like Heard and suggested "returning Heard's voice".
"Heard spoke the truth. Her statements in court are subject to freedom of expression under the First Amendment of the United States Constitution," Heard's attorney told the court.
After the deliberations between the two sides ended, the jurors began deliberations. Pending the verdict, Johnny Depp hugged those of his legal team who have been around for more than a month. The Pirates of the Caribbean actor also waved and thanked the fans who were present at the trial to support him.
Elsewhere in Fairfax court, Amber Heard also hugged attorney Elaine Bredehoft and members of the legal team. His sister Whitney Henriquez was the only person present in court to support Heard in all of the hearings.
The jury's final verdict will be in the trial reopening on May 31, after the holiday weekend.
